Circuit/System Verification

NOTE:

This diagnostic assumes the following:

  1. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  2. Engine - Cranking - For 10 s

    Verify there are no related DTCs set in the following system:

    • B23 Camshaft Position Sensor
    • B26 Crankshaft Position Sensor
    • B34 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
    • B46 Fuel Level Sensor
    • KR75 Engine Controls Ignition Relay
    • Q6 Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve
    • T8 Ignition Coil
    • Control Module Internal Failure
    • Control Module Ignition Off Timer Performance
    • Fuel Injector Control Module System Voltage
    • Fuel Mode Select Switch
    • Fuel System
    • Immobilizer System
    • No Transponder Modulation or No Transponder
    • System Voltage
    • Throttle Actuator Control System
    • Throttle Position Sensor
    • Go to next step: If a related DTC is not set 
  3. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  4. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode

    Verify the component turns On and Off: Security Indicator - But not flashing

    • Go to next step: If the component works as specified 
  5. Engine - Cranking - For 10 s

    Verify the scan tool parameter: Engine Speed = Greater than 0 RPM

    • Go to next step: If greater than 0 RPM 
  6. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  7. NOTE:

    An erratic or weak spark is considered a no spark condition.

  8. Perform the following steps:
    1. Remove the component: T8 Ignition Coil - Leave the electrical connector connected.
    2. Install - J-26792 Ignition Spark Tester @ T8 Ignition Coil & Ground
    3. Engine - Cranking

      Verify there is spark at the tool.

    • Go to next step: If there is spark 
  9. Install any previously removed components.
  10. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  11. NOTE:
    • Additional DTCs may set when using the scan tool control function: Fuel Pump Enable
    • If the engine is too hot, high fuel pressure readings may result due to hot soak fuel boiling. Allow the engine coolant temperature to cool to less than 60°C (150°F) before attempting to verify fuel pressure.
    • The fuel pump may need to be commanded On a few times in order to obtain the highest possible fuel pressure.
  12. Perform the scan tool function: Fuel Pump Enable - On - Command the function On several times.

    Verify the scan tool parameter: Fuel Pressure Sensor = 345 to 650 kPa (50 to 94 PSI) - While the fuel pump is running.

    • Go to next step: If between 345 and 650 kPa (50 and 94 PSI) 
  13. NOTE:

    After the fuel pump stops operating, the fuel pressure should stabilize and remain constant.

  14. Verify the scan tool parameter: Fuel Pressure Sensor = Pressure drops less than 34 kPa (5 PSI) within 1 min.
    • Go to next step: If the pressure drops less than 34 kPa (5 PSI) 
  15. Verify the following conditions do not exist:
    • Intake Air Duct - Collapsed/Restricted/Visible Damage
    • Air Cleaner Element - Dirty/Restricted
    • Fuel Feed Pipe - Kinked/Restricted/Visible Damage
    • Low Reference circuit@B23 Camshaft Position SensororB26 Crankshaft Position Sensor - Corrosion/Loose/Open/Poor Connection
    • Ground circuit@Engine - Corrosion/Loose/Poor Connection
    • Ground circuitorLow Reference circuit@K20 Engine Control Module - Corrosion/Loose/Poor Connection
    • Catalytic ConverterorExhaust System - Restricted/Visible Damage - Refer to: Restricted Exhaust
    • Spark Plugs - Fouled - Coolant/Engine Oil/Gasoline
    • Q17 Fuel Injector - Blocked/Dirty/Restricted/Visible Damage - Refer to: Fuel Injector Diagnosis 
    • Fuel - Contaminated/Dirty/Fill Level = Low/Ice/Water/- Refer to: Alcohol/Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis 
    • Q6 Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Stuck - Refer to: DTC P0010-P0014 or P2088-P2091
    • B34 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor - Skewed - Refer to: DTC P0116-P0119
    • B74 Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor - Skewed - Refer to: DTC P0107 or P0108
    • Engine - Mechanical Condition - Refer to: Symptoms - Engine Mechanical

      For example:

      • Compression - Low
      • Timing ChainorTiming Belt - Visible Damage/Worn
    • If a condition exists 

      Repair or replace the components as necessary.

    • Go to next step: If no condition exists 
  16. All OK.
