Torque Converter Vibration Test
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
The Noise and Vibration Analysis procedure should be performed prior to performing this test.
Vibration/balance verification test
NOTE:
Some engine/transmission combinations may be difficult to balance in this manner due to restricted access or limited clearances between the torque converter bolts and the engine.
To isolate and correct a flexplate or torque converter vibration, perform the following procedure:
- With the engine at idle speed and the transmission in PARK or NEUTRAL, observe the vibration.
- Turn the engine OFF.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (ZL1) , or Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Convertible) .
- Remove the torque converter cover and the bolts {if equipped}.
- Mark the relationship of the torque converter to the flexplate.
- Rotate the torque converter to inspect for defects or missing balance weights.
- Index the converter according to Indexing Torque Converter procedure located within this procedure.
- If the vibration remains, it is most likely caused by the engine.
- Refer to Torque Converter Replacement Guide located within this procedure.
