Torque Converter Bearing

Torque converter bearing noise is evident only in DRIVE or REVERSE. When the vehicle is stopped, bearing noise will increase/decrease with engine speed change. Bearing noise will stop when the vehicle is moving or with torque converter clutch applied due to reduced slip speed across the bearings.
NOTE:
Pump whine noise is noticeable in all gear ranges and will vary with line pressure.
Perform stall test to verify that noise is generated from the torque converter:
- Place your foot on the brake.
- Put the gear selector in DRIVE.
- Depress the accelerator to approximately 1, 200 RPM for no more than 6 seconds. A torque converter noise will increase with this increased load and speed.
CAUTION:
You may damage the transmission if you depress the accelerator for more than 6 seconds.
