Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
    NOTE:

    It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: X175@T12 Automatic Transmission Assembly
  3. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  4. Test for 8.5 to 9.5 V between the test points:
    • 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31 & Ground
    • 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 29 & Ground
    • If less than 8.5 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:
      • 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31 & Ground
      • 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 29 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31 & Terminal 7@Control module harness
      • 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 29 & Terminal 8@Control module harness
      • If greater than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
    • If greater than 9.5 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
    3. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:
      • 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31 & Ground
      • 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 29 & Ground
      • If greater than 1 V - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
    • Go to next step: If between 8.5 and 9.5 V 
  5. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  6. Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points:
    • {P182A, P1838, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 22 & 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 29
    • {P182B, P182C, P18BB, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 28 & 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31
    • {P182F, P1839, P18BA, P18C0} Signal circuit terminal 21 & 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 29
    • {P1824, P182D, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 23 & 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31
    • {P1840, P1841, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 34 & 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 31
  7. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  8. Verify the scan tool parameter: Internal Mode Switch A/B/C/P/S = 4.8 to 5.2 V
    • If greater than 5.2 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
    3. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:
      • {P182A, P1838, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 22 & Ground
      • {P182B, P182C, P18BB, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 28 & Ground
      • {P182F, P1839, P18BA, P18C0} Signal circuit terminal 21 & Ground
      • {P1824, P182D, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 23 & Ground
      • {P1840, P1841, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 34 & Ground
      • If greater than 1 V - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
    • If less than 4.8 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:
      • {P182A, P1838, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 22 & Ground
      • {P182B, P182C, P18BB, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 28 & Ground
      • {P182F, P1839, P18BA, P18C0} Signal circuit terminal 21 & Ground
      • {P1824, P182D, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 23 & Ground
      • {P1840, P1841, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 34 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
      • {P182A, P1838, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 22 & Terminal 62@Control module harness
      • {P182B, P182C, P18BB, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 28 & Terminal 61@Control module harness
      • {P182F, P1839, P18BA, P18C0} Signal circuit terminal 21 & Terminal 60@Control module harness
      • {P1824, P182D, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 23 & Terminal 59@Control module harness
      • {P1840, P1841, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 34 & Terminal 47@Control module harness
      • If greater than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
    • Go to next step: If between 4.8 and 5.2 V 
  9. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  10. Remove the component: Automatic Transmission Fluid Pan
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector: B15 Transmission Internal Mode Switch
  12. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  13. Test for 8.5 to 9.5 V between the test points:
    • {P1824, P182B, P1840} 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 10 & Ground
    • {P182A, P1839} 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 4 & Ground
    • If not between 8.5 and 9.5 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: X176
    3. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for 8.5 to 9.5 V between the test points:
      • {P1824, P182B, P1840} 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 19 & Ground
      • {P182A, P1839} 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 5 & Ground
      • If not between 8.5 and 9.5 V - Replace the component: Automatic Transmission Wiring Harness
      • If between 8.5 and 9.5 V - Replace the component: Automatic Transmission Control Wiring Harness
    • Go to next step: If between 8.5 and 9.5 V 
  14. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  15. Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points:
    • {P182A, P1838, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 5 & 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 4
    • {P182B, P182C, P18BB, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 8 & 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 10
    • {P182F, P1839, P18BA, P18C0} Signal circuit terminal 6 & 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 4
    • {P1824, P182D, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 9 & 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 10
    • {P1840, P1841, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 7 & 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 10
  16. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  17. Verify the scan tool parameter: Internal Mode Switch A/B/C/P/S = 4.8 to 5.2 V
    • If not between 4.8 and 5.2 V 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: X176
    3. Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points:
      • {P182A, P1838, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 2 & 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 5
      • {P182B, P182C, P18BB, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 3 & 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 19
      • {P182F, P1839, P18BA, P18C0} Signal circuit terminal 11 & 9V Reference Circuit 2Terminal 5
      • {P1824, P182D, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 17 & 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 19
      • {P1840, P1841, P18BA, P18BF} Signal circuit terminal 6 & 9V Reference Circuit 1Terminal 19
    4. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
    5. Verify the scan tool parameter: Internal Mode Switch A/B/C/P/S = 4.8 to 5.2 V
      • If not between 4.8 and 5.2 V - Replace the component: Automatic Transmission Wiring Harness
      • If between 4.8 and 5.2 V - Replace the component: Automatic Transmission Control Wiring Harness
    • Go to next step: If between 4.8 and 5.2 V 
  18. Replace the component: B15 Transmission Internal Mode Switch
