The following conditions could cause DTC P0299 to set:

Moisture is a natural by-product of the combustion process in an internal combustion engine. Evaporating moisture is drawn into the boost path through the PCV system. In cold weather climates, evaporating moisture may cause cold charge air cooler (CAC) icing.
Certain weather conditions during prolonged drive trips may cause ice to form in the area of the component: Charge Air Cooler
