Circuit/System Testing

NOTE:
Circuit/System Verification must be performed before proceeding with Circuit/System Testing.
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Verify the tool is available: GE-52250 Variable Pressure Leak Detector
- If the tool is not available
Refer to step 4
- Go to next step: If the tool is available
- If the tool is not available
- Perform the following procedure/test: Component/System Leak Test
Verify the procedure/test passes.
- If the procedure/test does not pass
Repair or replace as necessary
- Go to next step: If the procedure/test passes
- If the procedure/test does not pass
- Verify the following conditions do not exist:
- Air Cleaner Element - Dirty/Restricted
- Intake Air Duct - Cracked/Leaking/Loose Clamps/Restricted/Visible Damage
- Linkage@Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator - Binding or Sticking/Loose/Visible Damage/Worn
- Vacuum Hoses - Kinked/Incorrect connection/Leaking/Restricted
- Vacuum leak @ Engine - Oil Level Indicator and Tube/Oil Filler Cap
- Positive Crankcase Ventilation System
- Incorrect connection/Leaking/Restricted
- Leaking @ O-Ring - Missing/Visible Damage
- Restricted - Moisture/Ice
- B74 Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor - Leaking @O-Ring - Missing/Visible Damage
- B75C Multifunction Intake Air Sensor - Contamination of the measuring element/Cracked/Loose Clamps/Visible Damage/Water intrusion
- B111B Turbocharger Boost/Intake Air Temperature Sensor
- Leaking @ O-Ring - Missing/Visible Damage
- Restricted - Moisture/Ice
- Skewed
- Q38 Throttle Body
- Coking/Loose Clamps/Visible Damage
- Restricted - Moisture/Ice
- Catalytic Converter & Exhaust System - Blocked/Leaking/Restricted/Visible Damage - Refer to: Symptoms - Engine Exhaust
- Charge Air Cooler
- Incorrect connection/Leaking
- Restricted - Moisture/Ice
- Engine - Mechanical Condition - Refer to: Symptoms - Engine Mechanical
- Intake Manifold - Cracked/Loose Clamps/Restricted/Vacuum leak/Visible Damage
- Turbocharger - Mechanical Condition
- If a condition exists
Repair or replace as necessary
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- Disconnect the component: Vacuum Hose@Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve - Hose/line going to the component: Vacuum Pump Assembly
- Install - EN-23738-A Vacuum Pump @Vacuum Hose - Hose/line going to the component: Vacuum Pump Assembly
- Engine - Idling
- Verify the tool reading: EN-23738-A Vacuum Pump = -50 kPa (-0.5 bar, 15 in Hg) can be achieved and holds steady
- If the desired pressure/vacuum cannot be achieved or does not hold steady
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Verify a condition does not exist with the component: Vacuum Hoses - Incorrect connection/Kinked/Leaking/Restricted/Visible Damage
- If a condition exists - Repair or replace as necessary
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- Test or replace the component: Vacuum Pump Assembly
- Go to next step: If the desired pressure/vacuum can be achieved and holds steady
- Engine - Off
- Connect the component: Vacuum Hose@Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve - Hose/line going to the component: Vacuum Pump Assembly
- Disconnect the component: Vacuum Hose@Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator - Hose/line going to the component: Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve
- Install - EN-23738-A Vacuum Pump @Hose/line going to the component: Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve
- Engine - Idling
- Verify the tool reading: EN-23738-A Vacuum Pump = Less than -17 kPa (-0.17 bar, 5 in Hg)
- If -17 kPa (-0.17 bar, 5 in Hg) or greater
Test or replace the component: Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve
- Go to next step: If less than -17 kPa (-0.17 bar, 5 in Hg)
- If -17 kPa (-0.17 bar, 5 in Hg) or greater
- Engine Speed@Wide Open Throttle - For 2 s
Verify the tool reading: EN-23738-A Vacuum Pump = Greater than -50 kPa (-0.5 bar, 15 in Hg)
- If -50 kPa (-0.5 bar, 15 in Hg) or less
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Verify a condition does not exist with the component: Vacuum Hoses - Incorrect connection/Leaking/Visible Damage
- If a condition exists - Repair or replace as necessary
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- Test or replace the component: Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve
- Go to next step: If Greater than -50 kPa (-0.5 bar, 15 in Hg)
- Test or replace the component: Turbocharger
