Installation Procedure
Install the NEW propeller shaft transmission seal (3) using DT-22828 Input and Countershaft Race Installer to the case extension housing.
- When repairing low speed and garage shift clunk - except for moving the vehicle from the hoist, do not operate the vehicle above 5 m.p.h. at light throttle for 24 hours to allow the adhesive to cure.
- If the replacement flange contains a pre-applied adhesive patch, then liquid adhesive is not required and the 24 hour cure time is not necessary.
- Apply adhesive across the width of the flange splines. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers . However, if the replacement flange contains a pre-applied adhesive patch, then liquid adhesive is not required and the 24 hour cure time is not necessary.
- Install the propeller shaft transmission flange (2) to the output shaft.
- Sufficient application of adhesive to every tooth on the flange will leave excess adhesive on the output shaft after installation. If no excess is observed, reapply adhesive.
- NOTE:
The output shaft nut threads must be thoroughly clean and dry before installing the flange.
Apply adhesive across the width of the nut threads prior to tightening and staking. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers . However, if the replacement nut contains a pre-applied adhesive patch, then liquid adhesive is not required.
CAUTION:Refer to Fastener Caution .
Install the NEW propeller shaft transmission flange nut (1) and tighten to 105 N.m (77 lb ft).
- Remove the J-45012 Holding Fixture (3) from the propeller shaft transmission flange (2).
- Stake the propeller shaft transmission flange nut (1).
- Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (Coupe with LTG and M5T)Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (Convertible with LTG and M5T) .
The output shaft splines must be thoroughly clean and dry before installing the flange.
Stake the flange nut onto the output shaft. Use the two staking grooves on the shaft to locate the staking points. Failure to stake the flange nut may result in damage to the transmission.
