Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment
- Set the park brake and chock the wheels.
- Verify the automatic transmission range select lever cable lever is in the park position.
- Verify the automatic transmission manual shift lever is in the park position.
If installing a new cable, skip this step and go to the next step. Pull the retaining collar (1) forward, then release the automatic transmission range selector lever cable adjuster clip (2) by pushing in on the adjuster clip from the backside.
- Depress the automatic transmission range selector lever cable adjuster clip (2) inboard, locking the adjuster clip completely.
- Ensure that the automatic transmission range selector lever cable adjuster clip (2) is secured with automatic transmission range selector lever cable retaining collar covering the adjuster clip.
- Check to ensure that all available shift controls operate properly.
- Ensure the shifter cannot be shifted out of the Park position unless the brake is applied.
Adjust the automatic transmission range selector cable while the transmission and the gear selector are in the Park position only. Failure to do so may cause mis-adjustment.
Repeat the cycling of the transmission range select lever through all positions several times in order to distribute the lubrication within the range selector lever cable and reduce the transmission range select lever drag effort.
After installing the transmission range selector shift cable, ensure the shifter cannot be shifted out of the Park position unless the brake is applied. Failure to perform this task can result in the shifter moving out of the Park position unintentionally, causing potential vehicle damage and bodily injury.
