Removal Procedure
- Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)
- Air Cleaner Assembly - Remove - Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
Water Pump Pulley (2) - Remove - Water Pump Pulley Replacement (LGX)
Camshaft Cover - Left Side (2) - Remove - Camshaft Cover Replacement - Left Side
Camshaft Cover - Right Side (2) - Remove - Camshaft Cover Replacement - Right Side
- Engine Oil Cooler Adapter - Remove - Engine Oil Cooler Adapter Replacement (LGX)
Remove the water outlet (2) with the radiator hose and reposition aside. Water Outlet Replacement (LGX)
- Crankshaft Balancer - Remove - Crankshaft Balancer Replacement
- Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe - Remove - Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LGX)
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Electrical Connector (1) - Disconnect
- Remove the engine ground fastener and ground cable attached to the front cover.
- Detach retainers and position engine harness aside.
- Water Pump Inlet Pipe - Remove - Water Pump Inlet Pipe Replacement (LGX)
- Water Pump - Remove - Water Pump Replacement (LGX)
- Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Harness - Remove - Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Harness Replacement
- Camshaft Position Actuator Locating Pin Control Valve-Bank 1 - Remove - Camshaft Position Actuator Locating Pin Control Valve Replacement - Bank 1
- Camshaft Position Actuator Locating Pin Control Valve-Bank 2 - Remove - Camshaft Position Actuator Locating Pin Control Valve Replacement - Bank 2
Remove the 3 oil pan-to-front cover bolts (1)
Engine Front Cover Bolt (1) - Remove
- Engine Front Cover Bolt (2) - Remove
- Engine Front Cover Bolt (3) - Remove [16x]
- Engine Front Cover Bolt (4) - Remove [2x]
- NOTE:
The retaining clips attached to the oil pump flow control solenoid wire are used for production only and should be removed and discarded.
Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Electrical Connector (1) - Remove
- Engine Front Cover (2) - Remove
- Engine Front Cover Locating Pin (3) - Remove [2x]
- Clean, inspect and overhaul the engine front cover as needed. Engine Front Cover Overhaul
- Use compressed air in order to remove any engine coolant from the engine cooling passages and from the top of the oil pan scraper (windage tray).
Do not pry against the face of the camshaft position actuators or the position actuator retaining bolts as the position actuators will be damaged.
Locate pry points to aid in loosening the cover.
Insert a piece of cardboard between the oil pan front and the oil pump in order to prevent any contaminants from falling into the oil pan.
