Inspection Procedure

Inspect the exterior of the engine front cover for the following conditions:
- Damage to the engine front cover bolt holes (1)
- Damage to the camshaft position actuator valve oil seals and bores (2)
- Damage and/or corrosion to the engine front cover (3)
- Damage to the engine front cover insulator (4)
- Damage to the crankshaft front oil seal bore (5)
- Damage to the oil pump flow control valve wire mounting surface (6)
- Gouges or damage to the water pump sealing surfaces (7)
- Damage to the water pump bolt hole threads (8)
Inspect the interior of the engine front cover for the following conditions:
- Damage and/or corrosion to the engine coolant passage (1)
- Gouges or damage to the engine front cover sealing surfaces to the engine block (6), oil pan (4), and/or camshaft covers (2)
- Damage to the engine front cover bolt holes (3)
- Damage to the engine front cover to oil pan mounting bolt holes (5)
- Gouges or damage to the water pump seal area
- Damage to the crankshaft front oil seal bore
- Gouges or damage to the O-ring sealing areas
- Repair or replace the engine front cover as necessary.
