Camshaft Timing Chain Installation - Left Side

    Timing Chain- Left Side (1) - Install

    1. Make sure the camshaft flats with laser etched markings are straight up in relation to the cylinder head and that the crankshaft is in the stage 1 position. The crankshaft key way will be at approximately the 11 o'clock position. Timing Chain Alignment Diagram
    2. Preassemble the crank sprocket (2) to the left timing chain (1).
    3. Install the crank sprocket on the crankshaft while holding up the timing chain.
    4. Guide timing chain onto the guide, and not resting on the plastic side ribs.
    5. Use an open ended wrench on the cast hexagonal portion of the camshaft to rotate the camshafts, which will aid in the aligning of the timing marks.
    6. There may be more than one marking on the camshaft actuator sprocket area. Locate the (L) on the face of the actuator body. The correct timing mark can be a circle or triangle located straight inboard on the sprocket tooth in line with the (L) identifier.
    7. Align the left (L) exhaust camshaft position actuator sprocket alignment circle or triangle mark with the camshaft drive chain timing link.
    8. Align the left (L) intake camshaft position actuator sprocket alignment circle or triangle mark with the camshaft drive chain timing link.
