Camshaft Timing Chain Guide and Timing Chain Tensioner Installation - Left Side

Timing Chain Guide- Left Side (1) - Install
- Timing Chain Guide Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] 25 N.m (18 lb ft)
- Timing Chain Housing Gasket (3) - Install NEW
- Reset the timing chain tensioner plunger using your thumb and EN-52234 Timing Chain Tensioner Retaining Pin or a 1/8" drill bit to retain the plunger.
- Compress the plunger into the body and lock the left timing chain tensioner by inserting EN-52234 Timing Chain Tensioner Retaining Pin or 1/8" drill bit into the access hole in the side of the left timing chain tensioner body.
- Slowly release pressure on the right timing chain tensioner. The right timing chain tensioner should remain compressed.
- Timing Chain Tensioner- Left Side (4) - Install
- Place the chain tensioner into position and loosely install the bolts to the block.
- Timing Chain Tensioner Bolt (5) - Install and tighten [2x] 25 N.m (18 lb ft)
- Verify the timing marks are in the correct position before releasing the drive chain tensioner.
- Release the timing chain tensioner plunger by pulling out the suitable tool.
- Verify the left timing chain timing mark alignments by referring to Timing Chain Alignment Diagram - Stage One.
NOTE:
Ensure the left timing chain tensioner mounting surface on the left cylinder head does not have any burrs or defects that would degrade the sealing of the NEW left timing chain tensioner gasket.
WARNING:
The timing chain tensioner plunger is under high tension and must be retained by using the tensioner retraction pin during removal or installation of the timing chain tensioner. Failure to retain the timing chain tensioner plunger may cause it to be ejected with intense force and cause personal injury.
