Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. For cylinder head assembly refer to Cylinder Head Assemble .
  2. Ensure the number one cylinder is at top dead center. The crankshaft key should be on top at the 12 o'clock position.

    NOTE:

    Do not use any sealing material.

    Cylinder Head Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  4. Cylinder Head (2) - Install
  5. Cylinder Head Bolt (1) - Loosely install [10x]

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution .

    Tighten the bolts in sequence.

    1. First Pass: 30 N.m (22 lb ft) 30 N.m (22 lb ft)
    2. Final Pass: 190 degrees in sequence using the EN-45059  meter

    Water Outlet Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  8. Seat the water outlet (4) with seal onto the cylinder head.
  9. Water Outlet Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] Water Outlet Replacement (LTG)
  10. Exhaust Camshaft Position Sensor Electrical Connector (2) - Connect
  11. Intake Camshaft Position Sensor Electrical Connector (3) - Connect

    Ground Cable (3) - Install [2x]

  13. Ground Cable Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 22 N.m (16 lb ft)
  14. Wiring Harness Retainer (2) - Install
  15. Install and tighten the ground wire and bolt at the left front of the cylinder head. 22 N.m (16 lb ft)
  16. Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly - Install - Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement
  17. Install the intake and exhaust camshafts, bearing cap, and lash adjusters. Intake and Exhaust Camshaft, Bearing Cap, and Lash Adjuster Installation 
  18. Fuel Pump - Install - Fuel Pump Replacement
  19. Install the camshaft timing chain and tensioner. Camshaft Timing Chain and Tensioner Installation

    Engine Front Cover (1) - Install - Engine Front Cover Replacement 

  21. Exhaust Manifold - Install - Exhaust Manifold Replacement (LTG)
  22. Intake Manifold - Install - Intake Manifold Replacement 
  23. Camshaft Cover - Install - Camshaft Cover Replacement 
  24. Change the engine oil and filter. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  25. Fill the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)
