When the gear selector lever is placed in the Neutral (N) position, mechanical power flow is identical to Park (P) range, except that the park pawl actuator (602) is disengaged. The park pawl spring (613) releases the park pawl (614) from the lugs on the output carrier (38). With the park pawl disengaged, the output carrier is free to rotate allowing the vehicle to roll.
1. Power from Torque Converter
The power flows through the turbine shaft (568) into the output sun gear (70). Powerflow continues through the input carrier (62) which drives the direct overdrive sun gear shaft (65) and direct overdrive sun gear (68). The direct overdrive sun gear drives the direct overdrive carrier (67) pinion gears.
2. 4-5-6-7-8-9-10 Reverse Clutch Assembly Applied
The 4-5-6-7-8-9-10 reverse clutch assembly is applied and holds the Output Carrier Internal Gear Transfer Shell (71).
3. Powerflow Terminated
The turbine shaft (568), output sun gear (70), input carrier (62), direct overdrive sun gear shaft (65), direct overdrive sun gear (68) and direct overdrive carrier (67) rotate freely, powerflow is terminated.
4. 1-2-8-9-10 Reverse Clutch Assembly Applied
The 1-2-8-9-10 reverse clutch is applied in Park in preparation for a shift into either 1st or Reverse. This aids shift timing as only one clutch will need to be applied to achieve either range. The 10 Speed RWD is designed to have four components applied for each gear range, Also in each forward range, the design includes that only one component will need to be applied as another component releases.
5. 1-2-3-4-5-6 Reverse Clutch Assembly Applied
The 1-2-3-4-5-6 reverse clutch is applied in Park in preparation for a shift into either 1st or Reverse. This aids shift timing as only one clutch will need to be applied to achieve either range. The 10 Speed RWD is designed to have four components applied for each gear range, Also in each forward range, the design includes that only one component will need to be applied as another component releases.
6. Output Carrier Held
The output carrier (38) is held by torque transmitted from the wheels.
7. Direct Overdrive Internal Gear Held
The direct overdrive internal gear (551) which is splined to the output sun gear (572) is held by the direct overdrive carrier pinion gears.
