Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
    NOTE:

    A NEW service engine assembly containing NEW fuel injectors will have a new fuel injector QR code label located on the side of the camshaft housing.

  1. If installing a NEW service engine assembly containing NEW fuel injectors, remove and DISCARD the original engine's injector QR code label located on the charge air cooler.

    Generator and Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket (1) - Install

  3. Generator and Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Gasket (1) - Install NEW

  5. Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve (2) - Install
  6. Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve Bolt (3) Install and hand tighten [6x]
  7. Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve Bolt (3) - Tighten in sequence [6x] - Fastener Specifications
  8. Attach coolant temperature sensor wiring harness retainer to the engine coolant flow control valve.

    Intake Manifold Gasket (3) - Install NEW [6x]

  10. Intake Manifold (1) - Install
  11. Intake Manifold Bolt (2) - Install and hand tighten [9x]
  12. Intake Manifold Bolt (2) - Tighten in sequence [9x] - Fastener Specifications

    WARNING:

    The noise cancelling foam component MUST be replaced if it has been exposed to engine fluids. Failure to replace the noise cancelling foam component that has been exposed to engine fluids may result in an engine fire resulting in catastrophic engine damage, and possible injury or death.

    Intake Manifold Cover (1) - Install

  14. Intake Manifold Cover Retainer (2) - Install [2x]

    Attach the wiring harness retainers to the intake manifold.

    Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket (2) - Install

  17. Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Nut (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Exhaust Manifold Gasket (1) - Install NEW

  19. Exhaust Manifold (2) - Install
  20. If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
    4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
  21. Exhaust Manifold Flange Bolt (3) - Install and hand tighten [12x]
  22. Exhaust Manifold Flange Bolt (3) - Tighten in sequence [12x] - Fastener Specifications

    Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield (1) Install

  24. Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Bolt (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Turbocharger Oil Return Pipe Gasket (5) - Install NEW

  26. Turbocharger Oil Return Pipe Gasket (6) - Install NEW
  27. Turbocharger Gasket (3) - Install NEW
  28. Turbocharger Assembly (1) - Install
  29. Turbocharger Nut (2, 4) - Install NEW [3x]
  30. Turbocharger Oil Return Pipe Bolt (8) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  31. Turbocharger Oil Return Pipe Bolt (7) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  32. Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (9) Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  33. Turbocharger Nut (2, 4) - Tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Mount Bracket (2) - Install

  35. Engine Mount Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Mount (1) - Install

  43. Engine Mount Engine Side Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Inlet Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  45. Install the exhaust gas recirculation valve (2) and exhaust gas recirculation cooler inlet pipe as an assembly.

    Engine Coolant Thermostat Gasket (1, 6) @ Thermostat Bypass Hose - Install NEW [2x]

  53. Thermostat Bypass Hose (3) - Install
  54. Thermostat Bypass Pipe Bolt (2, 5) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
  55. Thermostat Bypass Pipe Bolt (4) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Coolant Thermostat Gasket (4) @ Thermostat Bypass Hose - Install NEW

  57. Thermostat Bypass Hose (2) - Install
  58. Thermostat Bypass Hose Clamp (1) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

    Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose (3) - Install

  68. Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose Stud (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Wiring Harness Retainer (3) @ Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose - Install [2x]

  71. Install the EN-52474  Engine Lift Bracket Set.
  72. Using a suitable engine lifting device, remove the engine from the engine stand.

    Remove the EN-52449  Engine Stand Adapter (2) from the engine block (1).

  74. Install the engine. Engine Removal and Installation (4WD, with RC1, without F47) , or Engine Removal and Installation (2WD, with RC1, without F47) Engine Removal and Installation (4WD, with RC1, with F47) , or Engine Removal and Installation (2WD, with RC1, with F47) , or Engine Removal and Installation (4WD, with WTX, with F47) , or Engine Removal and Installation (2WD, with WTX, with F47) , or Engine Removal and Installation (4WD, with WTX, without F47) , or Engine Removal and Installation (2WD, with WTX, without F47)
  75. Prelube is necessary if the engine is replaced or overhauled. Engine Prelubing
  76. Perform the fuel injector flow rate programming. Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming
  77. Perform the high pressure fuel variable reset. High Pressure Fuel Variable Reset
