    1. Leak engine oil
    2. Affect crankcase ventilation
    3. Interfere with the camshafts
    4. Allow water or condensation to enter the engine
  3. Inspect the exterior of the camshaft housing (1) for the following conditions:
    1. Damage to the camshaft housing bolt holes (2)
    2. Damage to the camshaft housing injector bracket bolt holes (3)
    3. Damage to the positive crankcase ventilation valve (4).

Clean the intake manifold mating surfaces.

  14. Inspect the intake manifold (1) for damage.
  15. Inspect the intake manifold (1) for cracks and fractures.
  16. Inspect all 12 intake runner valves (5) for damage.
  17. Clean the throttle body sealing surface (3).
  18. Clean the exhaust gas recirculation cooler outlet pipe sealing surface (2).
  19. Clean the intake manifold to cylinder head sealing surface (4).
  20. Replace the intake manifold (1) as necessary.

Clean the automatic transmission flex plate (3) in solvent.

  30. Dry the flex plate (3) with compressed air.
  31. Inspect the flex plate (3) for the following conditions:
    1. Stress cracks around the flex plate to torque converter mounting bolt hole locations (1) and flex plate to crankshaft (2, 4)
    2. NOTE:

Do not attempt to repair the welded areas that retain the ring gear to the flex plate. Install a NEW flex plate.

    3. Cracks at welded areas that retain the ring gear onto the flex plate (3)
    4. Damaged or missing ring gear teeth (5)
