Suspension Related Leaks

Condition Action
Verify the customer complaint. Test the vehicle on a shop hoist or road test.
NOTE:

Some presence of oil or dust on shock/strut is normal condition. Reference current bulletins to avoid unneeded repairs.


Compare against normal operation of affected systems.
It may be necessary to compare to a like vehicle to determine if an issue is present.
NOTE:

If symptom exists related to but not included in the customer complaint, refer to appropriate symptom chart.

Suspension General Diagnosis

Find the source of suspect fluid leak. Inspect shock/strut absorber for fluid leakage, clean, or replace as necessary and tighten to correct specification. Strut and Shock Absorber Inspection
NOTE:

Failure of one shock/strut does not indicate condition of others in system. Shocks/struts are designed and intended to operate independent of each other, and as such should be diagnosed and addressed individually to avoid unneeded repairs.


Inspect system components for signs of fluid leakage, repair or replace as necessary and tighten to correct specification.

Find the source of suspect air leak. Inspect air suspension components such as air tubes, fittings, springs, and reservoir tank for evidence of damage, repair or replace as necessary, and tighten to correct specification.
Confirm air tubes are fully seated by pushing air tube into fitting until it stops and then pull out to re-seat.
Apply soapy water to air tubes and fittings at air supply unit/compressor, reservoir tank, and springs and load suspension to inspect for leaks, repair or replace as necessary, and tighten to correct specification.

Verify conducted repair alleviated customer concern. Clean the areas of vehicle affected by the leak.
Re-test the vehicle on a shop hoist or road test and inspect for evidence of returning leak.
