Front Output Shaft and Input Shaft Cleaning and Inspection

  1. Inspect all components or sub-components and perform any repair procedure necessary to fix the damage. If the damage cannot be repaired, replace the component or sub-component as indicated.
  2. Clean all components in cleaning solvent and air dry.
  3. Inspect transfer case input shaft seal surface (1) for pitting, excessive wear, or damage.
  4. Inspect transfer case input shaft bearing surface (2) for excessive wear, damage, or if the bearing has spun on the shaft.
  5. Inspect the transfer case input shaft pilot bearing surface (3). If the bearing is removed, inspect for excessive wear, damage, or if the bearing has spun in the bore.
  6. Inspect the transfer case input shaft splines (4). Witness marks at the location of the splines are normal.
  7. Transfer Case Input Shaft Pilot Bearing Assembly (5) - Inspect for excessive wear or damage.

    Replace the bearing if roughness, brinelling, or pitting is detected. Input Shaft Pilot Bearing Replacement 

  8. Transfer Case Front Output Shaft Front Bearing (6) - Inspect for excessive wear or damage.

    Replace the bearing if roughness, brinelling, or pitting is detected. Front Output Shaft Front and Rear Bearing Replacement 

  9. Inspect the transfer case front output shaft seal surface (7) for pitting, excessive wear, or damage.
  10. Inspect the transfer case front output shaft front bearing surface (8). If the bearing is removed, inspect for excessive wear, damage, or if the bearing has spun on the shaft.
  11. Transfer case front output shaft driven sprocket engagement splines (9).
    NOTE:

    Witness marks at the location of the sprocket is normal.

  12. Inspect the transfer case front output shaft rear bearing surface (10). If the bearing is removed, inspect for excessive wear, damage, or if the bearing has spun on the shaft.
  13. Transfer Case Front Output Shaft Driven Sprocket Spacer (11) - Inspect for excessive wear or damage.

    Replace the bearing if roughness, brinelling, or pitting is detected. Front Output Shaft Front and Rear Bearing Replacement 

  14. Transfer Case Front Output Shaft Rear Bearing (12) - Inspect for excessive wear or damage.

    Replace the bearing if roughness, brinelling, or pitting is detected. Front Output Shaft Front and Rear Bearing Replacement
