Circuit/System Testing

Test 1

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: K69 Transfer Case Control Module
  3. Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points: Control circuit terminal 11 & Ground
    • If the test lamp does not turn On 
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector: X3 @ X50A Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Control circuit terminal 11 @ Control module harness & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Control circuit terminal 11 @ Control module harness & Output terminal @ Fuse
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Test or replace the component: Front Axle Engagement Actuator Relay
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  4. Remove the component: Front Axle Engagement Actuator Relay
  5. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  6. Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 11 @ Control module harness & Ground
    • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit. 
    • Go to next step: If less than 1 V 
  7. Clear DTCs
  8. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

    Verify the DTC does not set.

    • If the DTC sets 

      Replace the component: K69 Transfer Case Control Module

    • Go to next step: If the DTC does not set 
  9. All OK.

Test 2

    NOTE:

    It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator
  3. Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 4 & Ground
    • If 10 ohms or greater 
    1. Disconnect the ground connection: Ground Connection @ The other end of the circuit
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 4 & The other end of the circuit @ Ground Connection
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
    • Go to next step: If less than 10 ohms 
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector: K69 Transfer Case Control Module
  5. Connect a 5 A fused jumper wire between the test points: Terminal 11 @ K69 Transfer Case Control Module & Ground

    Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points: Ignition circuit terminal 1 @ M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator & Ground

    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is OK 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Ignition circuit terminal 1 & Output terminal @ Fuse
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Verify the fuse is OK and there is voltage at the fuse.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is open 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Ignition circuit terminal 1 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance - Replace the component: M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On 
  6. Remove - Jumper Wire(s)
  7. Connect the electrical connector: K69 Transfer Case Control Module
  8. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  9. Test for less than 11 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 @ M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator & Ground
    • If 11 V or greater 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: K69 Transfer Case Control Module
    3. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 @ Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V - Replace the component: K69 Transfer Case Control Module
    • Go to next step: If less than 11 V 
  10. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector: K69 Transfer Case Control Module
  12. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 @ Component harness & Ground
    • If less than infinite resistance 

      Repair the short to ground on the circuit.

    • Go to next step: If infinite resistance 
  13. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2 @ Component harness & Control circuit terminal 12 @ Control module harness
    • If 2 ohms or greater 

      Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

    • Go to next step: If less than 2 ohms 
  14. Connect the electrical connector: M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator
  15. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  16. Momentarily connect a jumper wire between the test points: Control circuit terminal 12 X1 @ Control module harness & Ground

    Verify the component activates: M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator - Produces a sound

    • If the component does not produce a sound 

      Replace the component: M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator

    • Go to next step: If the component produces a sound 
  17. Momentarily connect a jumper wire between the test points: Control circuit terminal 12 @ Control module harness & Ground

    Test for battery voltage between the test points: Control circuit terminal 9 @ Control module harness & Ground

    • If less than battery voltage 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Control circuit terminal 3 @ Component harness & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Control circuit terminal 3 @ Component harness & Control circuit terminal 9 @ Control module harness
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator
    • Go to next step: If battery voltage 
  18. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  19. Disconnect the electrical connector: M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator
  20. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  21. Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 3 @ Component harness & Ground
    • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit. 
    • Go to next step: If less than 1 V 
  22. Clear DTCs
  23. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

    Verify the DTC does not set.

    • If the DTC sets 

      Replace the component: K69 Transfer Case Control Module

    • Go to next step: If the DTC does not set
