Removal Procedure

- Battery Negative Cable - Disconnect
- Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-134a) , or Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf)
- Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)
Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose (2) @ Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing - Disconnect
- Heater Inlet Hose @ Heater Core - Disconnect - Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LT1 LT4)
- Heater Outlet Hose @ Heater Core - Disconnect - Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LT1 LT4)
Radiator Inlet Hose (2) @ Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing - Disconnect
- Radiator Outlet Hose - Remove - Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LT1 with V18 V03)
Fuel Feed Hose (2) @ Fuel Feed Pipe - Disconnect - Fuel Feed Front Hose Replacement
Air Conditioning Compressor (4) - Remove - Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LT1)
- Remove the front tires and wheels. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
- Drain the engine oil into a suitable container. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
- Front Cradle Shear Plate - Remove - Front Cradle Shear Plate Replacement
- Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear. Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
Electrical Connector @ Steering Gear - Disconnect [2x]
- Exhaust Muffler - Remove - Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LT1, LT4, Coupe) , or Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LT1, LT4, Convertible)
- Transmission - Remove - Transmission Replacement (with LT1, LT4)
Generator Fastener (1) - Remove
- Starter Solenoid Cable (2) - Remove
- Electrical Connector (3) - Remove
Knock Sensor (1) - Disconnect
- Crankshaft Position Sensor (2) - Disconnect
- Oil Level Sensor (3) - Disconnect
- Stabilizer Shaft Link @ Lower Control Arm - Disconnect - Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (LT1, LT4 or LTG with 1LE)
- Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod @ Steering Knuckle - Disconnect [2x] - Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement
- Separate the steering knuckle from the lower ball joint. [2x] - Front Lower Control Front Link Replacement (LT1, without V18) , or Front Lower Control Front Link Replacement (LT1, LT4, or LTG with 1LE, with V18)
Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Clip Bolt (1) @ Engine Mount - Right Side - Remove
Power Brake Booster Inlet Pipe Quick Connect (1) @ Vacuum Pipe - Disconnect
- Disconnect electrical connectors and detach harness retainers as necessary.
- Position harness as needed
- Remove the ground strap bolts at the rear of the cylinder heads.
- Remove the ground straps from the rear cylinder heads.
- Support the engine on the J 39580 engine support table and the J 39580-500 engine support table top.
- Remove the front and rear cradle fasteners. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LT1, LT4)
- Disconnect the electrical connector for the knock sensor, left side.
- Remove the engine harness retaining fasteners at the rear of the engine.
- Raise the vehicle completely off of the engine and cradle.
- Install the J-41803-9 engine lift hooks to the engine.
- Remove the engine mount nuts.
- Using a engine hoist and the J-41803-9 engine lift hooks slowly raise the engine.
- Remove the engine from the cradle.
- Install the engine onto an engine stand and prepare for disassembly.
- Remove the engine hoist.
- Remove the J-41803-9 engine lift hooks from the engine.
NOTE:
Visually inspect the wiring harness clearances while raising the vehicle.
