Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the propeller shaft. Propeller Shaft Replacement (without LT4) , or Propeller Shaft Replacement (with LT4, MJK) , or Propeller Shaft Replacement (with LT4, MHX) , or Propeller Shaft Replacement (AWD)
  2. Starter - Remove - Starter Replacement (LSY) , or Starter Replacement (LGY) , or Starter Replacement (LT4)
  3. Engine Coolant Heater Exhaust Pipe - Remove - Engine Coolant Heater Exhaust Pipe Replacement
  4. Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe - Remove - Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LGY) , or Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LSY Auxiliary Water Pump Inlet Pipe to Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose) , or Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LSY Engine Block to Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve)

    Remove the transmission close out plug (1).

  6. Mark the torque converter to flex plate orientation to ensure proper realignment.

    Repeat the following steps for all torque converter bolts (1):

    1. Rotate the harmonic balancer center bolt clockwise ONLY, to align the torque converter bolt with the starter opening.
    2. Torque Converter Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [6x]

    Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Exchanger (2) - Remove - Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Exchanger Replacement (LSY, without V03) , or Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Exchanger Replacement (LSY, RWD, with V03)

    Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter (1) - Remove - Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement

    Disconnect the electrical connector. (1)

  11. Release the retainers. (2) [4x]

    Transmission Bolt (1) - Remove [3x]

    Transmission Bolt (1) - Remove

    Transmission Stud (1) - Remove [2x]

    Transmission Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

  17. Disconnect the transmission vent hose from the engine.
  18. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
  19. Transmission Mount - Remove - Transmission Mount Replacement (RWD) 
  20. Pull the transmission straight back.
  21. Install the J-21366  Converter Holding Strap onto the transmission bell housing to retain the torque converter.
  22. Remove the transmission from the engine.
  23. Transfer components as necessary.
  24. Inspect the transmission fluid cooler, hoses, and pipes for leaks or damage. Replace as necessary.
