Battery Cover Seal Replacement

WARNING:

Ensure all High Voltage safety procedures are followed. Failure to follow the procedure exactly as written may result in serious injury or death.

WARNING:

Before working on any high voltage system, be sure to wear the following Personal Protection Equipment:

  • Safety glasses with appropriate side shields when within 50 feet of the vehicle, either indoors or outdoors
  • Certified and up-to-date Class "0" Insulation gloves rated at 1000V with leather protectors
    • Visually and functionally inspect the gloves before use.
    • Wear the Insulation gloves at all times when working with the high voltage battery assembly, whether the system is energized or not.

Failure to follow the procedure exactly as written may result in serious injury or death.

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Remove the drive motor battery. Drive Motor Battery Replacement and Shipping Preparation , or Drive Motor Battery Replacement and Shipping Preparation (Forklift Method) , or Drive Motor Battery Replacement and Shipping Preparation (Engine Hoist/Pallet Jack Method) 
  2. Remove the battery upper cover. Battery Upper Cover Replacement 
  3. Clean the sealing surface using acetone, toluene or methyl ethyl ketone.

Procedure 
If needed, replace the old washer to new one.
NOTE:

Washers are not included with a new seal.

2 Battery Cover Seal
NOTE:

Make sure all 50 washers are installed properly in the seal before the cover is reinstalled and torqued.

NOTE:

Failure to use all washers in their proper location can lead to a damaged upper cover during the torque sequence and subsequent battery leaks.
