Inspection Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
  2. Clean and inspect the rear suspension upper lateral link ball joint seal for cuts or tears. If the seal is damaged, replace the rear suspension upper lateral link. Rear Suspension Upper Lateral Link Replacement

    NOTE:

    It is not necessary to remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.

    Install the base of the J-8001  Dial Indicator Set, or equivalent, to the rear suspension upper lateral link at the location shown above (1).

  4. Install the dial indicator J-8001  Dial Indicator Set, or equivalent, to the rear suspension knuckle with the contact point at the location shown above (2).
  5. CAUTION:

    Do not pry in such a way that the ball joint seal is contacted. Damage to the seal may result.

  6. Grasp the tire at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock locations. Attempt to induce ball joint movement by alternately pushing in with one hand and pulling with the other.
  7. Note the reading on the dial indicator. If the dial indicator indicates a total movement reading greater than 0.5 mm (0.02 in), replace the rear suspension upper lateral link. Rear Suspension Upper Lateral Link Replacement
  8. Remove the dial indicator J-8001  Dial Indicator Set, or equivalent, from the rear suspension knuckle and the rear suspension upper lateral link.
  9. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
