Circuit/System Verification

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  2. Verify DTC P0641, P0651, P0697, P06A3 is not set.
    • Go to next step: If none of the DTCs are set 
  3. Verify the scan tool parameter: Throttle Body Idle Air Flow Compensation = Less than 90%
    • Go to next step: If less than 90% 
  4. Perform the scan tool control function: Throttle Sweep - Start

    Verify the scan tool parameter: Throttle Position Sensors 1 and 2 = Agree

    • Go to next step: If the specified state 
  5. Verify the scan tool parameter:
    • If not in the specified range 
    • Go to next step: If in the specified range 
  6. Verify the tool is available: GE-52250 Variable Pressure Leak Detector
    • If the tool is not available 

      Refer to step 10

    • Go to next step: If the tool is available 
  7. Perform the following procedure/test: Component/System Leak Test

    Verify the procedure/test passes.

    • If the procedure/test does not pass 

      Repair or replace as necessary

    • Go to next step: If the procedure/test passes 
  8. Verify the following conditions do not exist:
    • B65 Intake Manifold Pressure and Air Temperature Sensor - Visible Damage
    • B75C Multifunction Intake Air Sensor - Contamination of the measuring element/Visible Damage/Water intrusion
    • B111 Turbocharger Boost Sensor
      • Restricted - Moisture/Ice
      • Skewed
    • Q38 Throttle Body
      • Coking/Loose Clamps/Visible Damage
      • Restricted - Moisture/Ice
    • NOTE:

      It may be necessary to use a scan tool control function to operate a component.

    • Linkage @ Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator - Binding or Sticking/Loose/Visible Damage
    • Q40 Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid - Binding or Sticking/Loose/Visible Damage
    • Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve - Binding or Sticking/Loose/Visible Damage
    • Air Cleaner Element - Dirty/Restricted
    • Catalytic Converter & Exhaust System - Blocked/Leaking/Restricted/Visible Damage - Refer to Symptoms - Engine Exhaust
    • Charge Air Cooler - Restricted/Moisture/Ice
    • Intake Air Duct - Collapsed/Restricted/Visible Damage
    • Intake Manifold - Restricted/Visible Damage
    • Positive Crankcase Ventilation System - Restricted - Moisture/Ice
    • If a condition exists 

      Repair or replace as necessary

    • Go to next step: If no condition exists 
  9. Verify the following conditions do not exist: Engine - Mechanical Condition
      NOTE:

      The list is not all encompassing - Refer to Symptoms - Engine Mechanical

    • Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger or Turbine Shaft Seal - Leaking - Engine Oil
    • Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger - Low oil pressure
    • Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger - Mechanical Condition/Worn
    • Camshaft Lobe(s) - Visible Damage/Worn
    • Exhaust Valve or Intake Valve - Stuck Open/Visible Damage
    • Exhaust Valve Seat or Intake Valve Seat - Visible Damage
    • Piston - Cracked/Visible Damage
    • Piston Ring - Seized/Visible Damage/Worn
    • If a condition exists 

      Repair or replace as necessary

    • Go to next step: If no condition exists 
  10. Verify the conditions listed below do not exist:
    • B65 Intake Manifold Pressure and Air Temperature Sensor - Leaking @ O-Ring - Missing/Visible Damage
    • B75C Multifunction Intake Air Sensor - Contamination of the measuring element/Cracked/Loose Clamps/Visible Damage/Water intrusion
    • B111 Turbocharger Boost Sensor
      • Leaking @ O-Ring - Missing/Visible Damage
      • Restricted - Moisture/Ice
      • Skewed
    • Q38 Throttle Body
      • Coking/Loose Clamps/Visible Damage
      • Restricted - Moisture/Ice
    • NOTE:

      It may be necessary to use a scan tool control function to operate a component.

    • Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator - Linkage Binding or Sticking/Loose/Visible Damage
    • Q40 Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid - Binding or Sticking/Loose/Visible Damage
    • Q42 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid Valve - Binding or Sticking/Loose/Visible Damage
    • Air Cleaner Element - Dirty/Restricted
    • Catalytic Converter - Blocked/Restricted/Visible Damage
    • Charge Air Cooler
      • Leaking/Incorrect connection
      • Restricted - Moisture/Ice
    • Engine - Mechanical Condition - Refer to Symptoms - Engine Mechanical
    • Exhaust System - Leaking/Restricted/Visible Damage - Refer to Symptoms - Engine Exhaust
    • Intake Air Duct or Turbocharger Inlet Duct - Cracked/Leaking/Loose Clamps/Restricted/Visible Damage
    • Intake Manifold - Cracked/Loose Clamps/Restricted/Vacuum leak/Visible Damage
    • Positive Crankcase Ventilation System
      • Leaking @ O-Ring - Missing/Visible Damage
      • Restricted - Moisture/Ice
      • Incorrect connection/Leaking/Restricted
    • Turbocharger - Mechanical damage/Visible Damage - Refer to Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger System Description
    • Vacuum leak @ Engine - Oil Level Indicator and Tube/Oil Filler Cap
    • If a condition exists 

      Repair or replace as necessary

    • Go to next step: If no condition exists 
  11. Engine - Idling - At normal operating temperature
  12. Verify the scan tool parameter:
    • MAP Sensor = 26 to 52 kPa (3.8 to 7.5 PSI) @ Idle Speed
    • MAP Sensor = The value should change with accelerator pedal input.
    • Go to next step: If between 26 and 52 kPa (3.8 and 7.5 PSI) and changes 
  13. Verify the scan tool parameter: Boost Pressure Sensor = The value should change with accelerator pedal input.
    • Go to next step: If the value changes 
  14. Increase the engine speed slowly to 3000 RPM and then back to idle.
  15. Perform the scan tool function: Review Stored Data
  16. Observe the scan tool parameter frame by frame with a scan tool: MAF Sensor

    Verify the scan tool parameter: MAF Sensor = The value should not spike or drop out.

    • Go to next step: If the value does not spike or drop out 
  17. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

    Verify the DTC does not set.

    • If the DTC sets 

      Repeat step 1

    • Go to next step: If the DTC is not set 
  18. All OK.
