Circuit/System Testing

- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: X175 @ T12 Automatic Transmission Assembly
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 1 (harness side) & Ground
- If 10 ohms or greater
- Disconnect the ground connection: G104
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 1 (harness side) & Terminal G104
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
- Go to next step: If less than 10 ohms
- Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points: B+ circuit terminal 3 & Ground
- If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is OK
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: B+ circuit terminal 3 & Output terminal @ Fuse
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Verify the fuse is OK and there is voltage at the fuse.
- If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is open
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: B+ circuit terminal 3 & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode & Engine - Off
- Test for 4.8 to 5.2 V between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground
- If less than 4.8 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 2 & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- If greater than 5.2 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode & Engine - Off
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1 V - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Go to next step: If between 4.8 and 5.2 V
- Test for 1.4 to 2.4 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 5 & Ground
- If less than 1.4 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Control circuit terminal 5 & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Control circuit terminal 5 & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- If greater than 2.4 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode & Engine - Off
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 5 & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1 V - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Go to next step: If between 1.4 and 2.4 V
- Remove the component: Torque Converter and Differential Housing
- Disconnect the electrical connector: G5 Transmission Fluid Pump - Electric/Auxiliary
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
- B+ circuit terminal 2 @ G5 Transmission Fluid Pump - Electric/Auxiliary & Terminal 3 @ X175 (component side)
- Control circuit terminal 1 @ G5 Transmission Fluid Pump - Electric/Auxiliary & Terminal 1 @ X175 (component side)
- Ground circuit terminal 3 @ G5 Transmission Fluid Pump - Electric/Auxiliary & Terminal 1 @ X175 (component side)
- Signal circuit terminal 4 @ G5 Transmission Fluid Pump - Electric/Auxiliary & Terminal 2 @ X175 (component side)
- If 2 ohms or greater
Replace the component: Automatic Transmission Wiring Harness
- Go to next step: If less than 2 ohms
- Test or replace the component: G5 Transmission Fluid Pump - Electric/Auxiliary
NOTE:
Testing for steps 6 to 7 is performed on the control module K71 side of the harness connector.
