Piston and Connecting Rod Assemble

    NOTE:

    Some models may have pistons with an integral ring carrier design. It is important that all pistons match. Ensure all pistons match during assembly. Piston, Connecting Rod, and Bearing Cleaning and Inspection 

    NOTE:

    Apply engine oil to the piston pin and the connecting rod.

    Install the connecting rod (5) with the orientation mark (4) facing in the opposite direction of the arrow on the top of the piston.

  2. Piston Pin (2) - Install
  3. Piston Pin Retainer (1, 3) - Install [2x]

    Piston Oil Ring Rail (3) - Install

  5. NOTE:

    Ensure the rail spacer is installed with the correct side facing up.

  6. Piston Oil Ring Rail Spacer (4) - Install
  7. Piston Oil Ring Rail (3) - Install
  8. NOTE:

    Ensure the piston compression lower ring ins installed with the notch facing down.

  9. Piston Compression Lower Ring (2) - Install
  10. Piston Compression Upper Ring (1) - Install

    Once the rings are installed, set the piston ring end gaps using the piston location arrow for reference.

    1. Piston compression upper ring gap (1)
    2. Piston compression lower ring gap (2)
    3. First piston oil ring rail gap (3)
    4. Piston oil ring rail spacer gap (4)
    5. NOTE:

      The second piston oil ring rail gap is offset 90 degrees from the first piston oil ring rail gap, and 135 degrees offset from the piston oil ring rail spacer gap.

    6. Second piston oil ring rail gap (3)
