Removal Procedure
- Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE-47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)
- Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
- Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
Engine Control Module Bracket - Remove - Engine Control Module Bracket Replacement
Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose - Remove - Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose Replacement
Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Hose - Remove - Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Hose Replacement (LIH)
Air Cleaner Assembly - Remove - Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
Air Cleaner Outlet Rear Duct - Remove - Air Cleaner Outlet Rear Duct Replacement
Fuel Feed Front Pipe - Remove - Fuel Feed Front Pipe Replacement
- Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube - Remove - Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube Replacement
- Evaporative Emission Pipe - Remove - Evaporative Emission Pipe Replacement (Fuel Tank Side) , or Evaporative Emission Pipe Replacement (Underbody Side)
- Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Hose - Remove - Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Hose Replacement
- Battery Tray - Remove - Battery Tray Replacement
Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block - Remove - Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block Replacement
Engine Wiring Harness (2) - Remove
Radiator Inlet Hose - Remove - Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LIH)
Ground Nut (1) - Remove
- Ground Cable (2) - Remove
- Transmission Control Module Wiring Harness (4) - Disconnect
- Engine Wiring Harness Connector (5) - Disconnect
- Wiring Harness Retainer (3) - Disconnect [3x]
Heater Outlet Hose - Remove - Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LIH)
Heater Inlet Hose - Remove - Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LIH)
Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Bolt (1) - Remove
- Slide the retainer lock (2) forward to expose the cable adjustment retainer (3).
- Using a suitable tool, raise the cable adjustment retainer (3) to the unlock position.
- Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable (4) @ Range Selector Lever Cable Lever - Remove
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe - Remove - Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe Replacement (LIH)
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe - Remove - Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe Replacement (LIH)
Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Hose - Remove - Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Hose Replacement
- Radiator Outlet Hose - Remove - Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LIH)
Air Conditioning Compressor - Remove - Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LIH)
Exhaust Front Muffler - Remove - Exhaust Front Muffler Replacement (FWD)
- Radiator - Secure @ Upper Tie Bar
Transmission Mount Strut - Remove - Transmission Mount Strut Replacement
Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle - Remove - Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation (FWD)
- NOTE:
The drive shaft remains in the wheel hub.
Right Front Wheel Drive Shaft (2) @ Transmission - Disconnect - Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Right Side (FWD)
- Secure the right drive shaft (2) to the hoist (1), using a suitable strap (3).
Left Front Wheel Drive Shaft (1) @ Transmission - Disconnect - Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side
- Secure the left drive shaft (1) to the hoist (3), using a suitable strap (3).
- Propulsion System Lift Table - Install - Propulsion System Lift Table
- Engine Mount - Remove - Engine Mount Replacement
- Transmission Mount - Remove - Transmission Mount Replacement
- Slowly lower the support table until the powertrain assembly is clear of the vehicle.
- Separate the transmission from the engine. Transmission Replacement (LIH)
- Transfer components as necessary.
While lifting the engine, check to ensure all electrical connections and hoses are disconnected, clearance is maintained between the engine assembly and other vehicle components.
Ensure adequate clearance between the powertrain assembly and surrounding components is maintained during powertrain removal.
