Cylinder Head Assemble
Special Tools
- EN-958 Valve Stem Seal Installer
- EN-50717 Valve Spring Compressor
- EN-50717 - 10 Valve Spring Compressor Adapters
Equivalent regional tools: Special Tools .
Assemble both EN-50717 support braces (2) to the EN-50717 - 10 Valve Spring Compressor Adapters (6).
- Install the EN-50717 - 10
Valve Spring Compressor Adapters (6) to the cylinder head.
- Use washers between the special tool and the cylinder head.
- Hand-tighten 5 bolts (1) to the cylinder head until the remaining special tool components are assembled.
- Install both EN-50717 sliding rods (3) to the EN-50717 support braces (2).
- Assemble the EN-50717 demounting piece (5) on the EN-50717 handle (4).
- Install the EN-50717 handle (4) to the EN-50717 sliding rods (3).
- Tighten the hex nut at the EN-50717 handle (4).
- Tighten the EN-50717 support brace bolts and the cylinder head fixing bolts (1).
- Adjust the EN-50717 compressor adapter so it is in-line with the valve components.
Intake Valve (3) - Install
- Valve Stem Oil Seal (4) - Install NEW - Use the special tool: EN-958 Valve Stem Seal Installer
- Valve Spring (1) - Install
- Valve Spring Retainer (2) - Install
Position the EN-50717 demounting piece properly to the valve spring retainer.
- Many internal engine components will develop specific wear patterns on their friction surfaces.
- Components MUST be separated, marked, or organized in a way to ensure installation to their original location and position. Take precautions in order to prevent interchanging of parts.
- Tag or mark each part immediately when removed. Indicate location, direction, or orientation when necessary.
- Tighten the EN-50717 handle to compress the valve spring and valve spring retainer until the valve keys are able to be installed. Use a suitable tool and a bit of grease to install the valve keys (1).
- Loosen the EN-50717 handle to release the tension on the valve spring.
- Repeat the previous steps to install each intake valve, valve stem oil seal, valve spring, valve spring retainer, and valve keys.
Remove the EN-50717 - 10 Valve Spring Compressor Adapters (1) with the EN-50717 Valve Spring Compressor (2) from the intake side of the cylinder.
- Install the EN-50717 - 10 Valve Spring Compressor Adapters (1) with the EN-50717 Valve Spring Compressor (2) to the exhaust side of the cylinder.
Exhaust Valve (3) - Install
- Valve Stem Oil Seal (4) - Install NEW - Use the special tool: EN-958 Valve Stem Seal Installer
- Valve Spring (1) - Install
- Valve Spring Retainer (2) - Install

The demounting piece must be applied parallel to the valve to apply even pressure on the valve spring retainers, and to prevent damage to the tools or the valve train components.
Do not damage the valve guide. Remove any burrs that have formed at the key groove by chamfering the valve stem with an oil stone or a file.
Compressed valve springs have high tension against the valve spring compressor. Valve springs that are not properly compressed by or released from the valve spring compressor can be ejected from the valve spring compressor with intense force. Use care when compressing or releasing the valve spring with the valve spring compressor and when removing or installing the valve stem keys. Failing to use care may cause personal injury.
Do not compress the valve springs less than 25.0 mm (0.984 in). Contact between the valve spring retainer and the valve stem oil seal can cause potential valve stem oil seal damage.
