Camshaft Cover Replacement

Removal Procedure

    Intake Manifold Cover - Remove

  2. Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Hose - Remove - Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Hose Replacement

    Fuel Feed Front Pipe - Remove - Fuel Feed Front Pipe Replacement

  4. Evaporative Emission Pipe - Remove - Evaporative Emission Pipe Replacement (Fuel Tank Side) , or Evaporative Emission Pipe Replacement (Underbody Side)
  5. Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube - Remove - Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube Replacement

    NOTE:

    DO NOT remove the positive crankcase ventilation vacuum hose unless replacement of the hose is necessary.

    • The positive crankcase ventilation vacuum hose clamps are tamper-proof connections.
    • The turbocharger must be removed in order to install the positive crankcase ventilation vacuum hose at the turbocharger.
    • The camshaft cover, turbocharger, and vacuum hose can be removed together as an assembly and set aside so long as the tamper-proof connection remains intact.
    • The camshaft cover or turbocharger can be removed and set aside so long as the vacuum hose connection remains intact and undamaged.

    Positive Crankcase Ventilation Vacuum Hose - Remove and DISCARD - Positive Crankcase Ventilation Vacuum Hose Replacement

    Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe Bracket Bolt (2, 3) - Remove

  8. Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe Bracket (1, 4) - Position aside
  9. Retainer (5) - Disconnect [6x]
  10. Ignition Coil Connector (6) - Disconnect [3x]

    Ignition Coil - Remove - Ignition Coil Replacement

    Oil Level Indicator - Remove

    Camshaft Cover Bolt (1) - Remove [17x]

    Camshaft Cover (1) - Remove

  15. Camshaft Cover Gasket (3) - Remove and DISCARD
  16. Camshaft Cover (2) - Clean and inspect - Camshaft Cover Cleaning and Inspection 

Installation Procedure

    Camshaft Cover Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  2. NOTE:

    Check that the locating pins (2, 4) sits correct in their hole.

    NOTE:

    Make sure that the camshaft cover heat shield is not trapped between the camshaft cover and the cylinder head. Otherwise, the heat shield could be damaged.

  3. Camshaft Cover (1) - Install

    Camshaft Cover Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [17x]

  5. Camshaft Cover Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [17x]
    1. First Pass: 4 N.m (35 lb in)
    2. Final Pass: 8.5 N.m (75 lb in)

    Oil Level Indicator - Install

    Ignition Coil - Install - Ignition Coil Replacement

    Ignition Coil Connector (6) - Connect [3x]

  9. Retainer (5) - Connect [6x]
  10. Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe Bracket (1, 4) - Install
  11. Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe Bracket Bolt (2, 3) - Install and tighten [2x] 8.5 N.m (75 lb in)
  12. Positive Crankcase Ventilation Vacuum Hose @ Turbocharger - Install NEW - Positive Crankcase Ventilation Vacuum Hose Replacement

    NOTE:

    Observe the identification and alignment marks on the vacuum hose end (3). These marks indicate which end matches the camshaft cover (ENG); and alignment of the vacuum hose at the camshaft cover (1).

    Positive Crankcase Ventilation Vacuum Hose (2) @ Camshaft Cover - Install

    NOTE:

    The hose clamps come loosely installed on the NEW positive crankcase ventilation vacuum hose. The hose clamps can be re-positioned when necessary.

    Observe the orientation of the hose clamp and ensure the EN-52875  Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Hose Clamp Installer will have sufficient room to engage and rotate to secure the hose clamp.

  15. Install EN-52875  Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Hose Clamp Installer handle (3) onto the NEW positive crankcase ventilation vacuum hose clamp (1).
  16. Install EN-52875  Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Hose Clamp Installer ratchet (2) into the handle (3), and engaging the hose clamp (1).
  17. Press down on the EN-52875  Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Hose Clamp Installer thumb lever (4) to lock and engage the ratchet (2).

    NOTE:

    The hose clamp is properly tightened when the ratchet becomes more difficult to turn, and the hose clamp band compresses flush with the positive crankcase ventilation vacuum hose.

    Holding the EN-52875  Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Hose Clamp Installer (1) steady with one hand, use the ratchet (2) to tighten the positive crankcase ventilation vacuum hose clamp.

    Once the positive crankcase ventilation vacuum hose clamp is suitably tightened, rotate the entire EN-52875  Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Hose Clamp Installer (1) upwards, approximately 90 degrees.

  20. Holding the EN-52875  Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Hose Clamp Installer upward, rotate the bottom lever (2) downwards to cut the excess clamp band.
  21. NOTE:

    The cut edges of the hose clamp band may be sharp. Observe the end of the hose clamp band. Cut additional band if too much excess band still remains.

  22. Using a suitable tool, bend the hose clamp band backward and down against the hose clamp.
  23. Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube - Install - Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube Replacement
  24. Evaporative Emission Pipe - Install - Evaporative Emission Pipe Replacement (Fuel Tank Side) , or Evaporative Emission Pipe Replacement (Underbody Side)
