Installation Procedure

  1. If reusing the crankshaft rear oil seal housing (2), install a NEW crankshaft rear oil seal housing gasket (1) to the crankshaft rear oil seal housing (2).

  2. Apply a 3 mm (0.118 in) bead of RTV sealant on the crankshaft rear oil seal housing (1). Apply a 5 mm (0.197 in) bead of RTV sealant on the crankshaft rear oil seal housing (2). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    NOTE:

    Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

  3. Install the EN-41479-2B  Seal Installer Pilot (2) and 3 screws (1) onto the rear of the crankshaft.

  4. Hand tighten the 3 screws (1). Do NOT overtighten.
  5. Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing (2) - Install

  6. Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Hand tighten [12x]
  7. Oil Pan Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [2x]

  8. Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [12x] - Fastener Specifications

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  9. Oil Pan Bolt (1) - Tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

  10. Remove the EN-41479-2B  Seal Installer Pilot (2) and 3 screws (1) from the crankshaft.

  11. If the crankshaft rear oil seal cover is reused, perform the following steps:
    1. Install the EN-41479-2B  Seal Installer Pilot (5) and 3 screws (6) onto the rear of the crankshaft.

    2. Hand tighten the 3 screws (6). Do NOT overtighten.
    3. NOTE:

      For proper orientation, note the installation direction of the crankshaft rear oil seal. The crankshaft rear oil seal is a reverse-lip design.

      Do NOT lubricate the oil seal sealing surface.

      Install the oil seal with "THIS SIDE OUT" facing away from the engine.

    4. Install the NEW crankshaft rear oil seal (4) to the EN-41479-2B  Seal Installer Pilot (5) and push the crankshaft rear oil seal (4) to the crankshaft rear oil seal housing.
    5. Install the EN-41479-10  Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installer Adapter (3) to the EN-41479-1  Seal Installer (2).
    6. Install the EN-41479-3  Seal Installer Handle (1) to the EN-41479-1  Seal Installer (2) and EN-41479-10  Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installer Adapter (3).
    7. Thread the EN-41479-3  Seal Installer Handle (1) into the EN-41479-2B  Seal Installer Pilot (5) until the EN-41479-10  Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installer Adapter (3) contacts the NEW crankshaft rear oil seal (4).
    8. Align the NEW crankshaft rear oil seal (4) onto the EN-41479-10  Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installer Adapter (3).
    9. Rotate the EN-41479-3  Seal Installer Handle (1) clockwise until the NEW crankshaft rear oil seal (4) enters the crankshaft rear oil seal housing and seats into the bottom of crankshaft rear oil seal housing.
    10. Remove the EN-41479-3  Seal Installer Handle (1), EN-41479-1  Seal Installer (2) and the EN-41479-10  Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installer Adapter (3) from the EN-41479-2B  Seal Installer Pilot (5).
    11. Remove the EN-41479-2B  Seal Installer Pilot (5) and 3 bolts (6) from the crankshaft.
  12. Oil Filter (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  13. Automatic Transmission Flex Plate (1) - Install

    NOTE:

    The automatic transmission flex plate does not use a locating pin for alignment and will not initially seat against the crankshaft flange, but will be pulled onto the crankshaft by the 8 New automatic transmission flex plate bolts. This procedure requires a 2 stage tightening process.

  14. If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
    4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
  15. CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

  16. Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Bolt (1) - Install NEW and hand tighten [8x]
  17. Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [8x] - Fastener Specifications
  18. Remove the M10-1.5 x 120 mm (3) and the M10-1.5 x 45 mm (2) bolts.

  19. Remove the EN-42386  Flywheel Holding Tool (1).
  20. Transmission - Install - Automatic Transmission Removal and Installation (L84, L87 with 2WD with F47) , or Automatic Transmission Removal and Installation (L84, L87 with 2WD without F47)
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22. Fill the engine oil to the proper level with NEW engine oil.
  23. Start the engine and check for engine oil leaks.
