Installation Procedure
- Remove the M10-1.5 x 120mm (3) and the M10-1.5 x 45mm (2) bolts.
- Remove the EN-42386 Flywheel Holding Tool (1).
- Camshaft (1) - Install
- Camshaft Retainer (1) - Install
- If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Camshaft Retainer Bolt (2) - Install and hand tighten [4x]
- Camshaft Retainer Bolt (2) - Tighten in sequence [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Lubricate the valve lifters (1), valve lifter guides (2) and the engine block valve lifter bores with clean engine oil. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

- When reusing valve lifters (1), ensure the lifters to their original locations.
- Only replace the valve lifters (1) and valve lifter guides (2) as required.
- If camshaft replacement is required, the valve lifters (1) must also be replaced.
- Install the raised surface of the valve lifter (1) into the notched area of the valve lifter guide (2).
- Install the valve lifter guide (2) and the valve lifters (3) as an assembly.NOTE:
The notched area of the valve lifter guides (2) align with the locating tab on the engine block.
- Valve Lifter Guide Bolt- Left Side (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Lubricate the valve lifters (1), valve lifter guides (2) and the engine block valve lifter bores with clean engine oil. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and SealersNOTE:
- When reusing valve lifters (1), install the lifters to their original locations.
- Only replace the valve lifters (1) and the valve lifter guides (2) as required.
- If camshaft replacement is required, the valve lifters (1) must also be replaced
- Install the raised surface of the valve lifter (1) into the notched area of the valve lifter guide (2).
- Install the valve lifter guide (2) and the valve lifters (1) as an assembly.NOTE:
The notched area of the valve lifter guides (2) align with the locating tab on the engine block.
- Valve Lifter Guide Bolt- Right Side (3) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Valve Lifter Follower (3) - Install
- Valve Lifter Follower Guide (2) - Install
- Valve Lifter Follower Guide Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Crankshaft Sprocket (1) @Crankshaft - Install
- Rotate the crankshaft sprocket until the sprocket alignment mark (1) is in the 12 o'clock position.
- Timing Chain Tensioner (1) - Install
- Timing Chain Tensioner Bolt (2) - Install and hand tighten
- Remove and DISCARD the tie strap from the actuator.
- The camshaft sprocket alignment mark (1) and the crankshaft sprocket alignment mark (2) must be aligned properly.NOTE:
The alignment mark on the camshaft position actuator (2) and the alignment mark on the crankshaft sprocket (1) are off-center from the oil pump feed hole gasket on the timing chain tensioner. The alignment marks need to be lined up with one another, but NOT with the oil feed hole.
- If the alignment marks on the camshaft position actuator (1) and crankshaft sprocket (2) are difficult to see or line up, an alternate method can be used. Mark the gear tooth directly opposite of the alignment mark on the camshaft position actuator. Mark the gear tooth directly opposite of the alignment mark on the crankshaft sprocket.
- The timing chain has 30 links. Place links (1) and (30) on either side of the mark made on the camshaft position actuator and place links (15) and (16) on either side of the mark made on the crankshaft sprocket. This will ensure that the factory alignment marks are in the correct position and that the engine is properly timed.
- Identify the alignment hole (1) in the rear face of the camshaft position actuator and the locating pin (2) on the front face of the camshaft.NOTE:
- Properly locate the camshaft position actuator (1) onto the locating pin of the camshaft (2).
- The sprocket teeth and timing chain must mesh.
- The camshaft and the crankshaft sprocket alignment marks MUST be aligned properly.
- Do not use the camshaft position solenoid valve again. Install a NEW valve during assembly.
- Install the camshaft position actuator (3) and timing chain (1). Align the hole in the rear face of the camshaft position actuator with the locating pin on the front face of the camshaft. If necessary, rotate the camshaft or crankshaft sprockets (2) in order to align the timing marks. Use care to install the actuator (3) completely onto the front of the camshaft. Position fingers onto the face of the actuator sprocket and push the actuator onto the front of the camshaft. Never push on the reluctor wheel when attempting to install the actuator.WARNING:

- Position fingers onto the face of the actuator sprocket (2) and push the actuator onto the front of the camshaft.
- Position the EN-42386
Flywheel Holding Tool (1) into place.
- Install the M10-1.5 x 120mm (3) and M10-1.5 x 45mm (2) bolts and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener SpecificationsCAUTION:

- Locate a straight edge (1) across the front face of the engine block (2) and inspect for proper installation of the camshaft position actuator and timing chain (3). With the camshaft position actuator properly and completely installed onto the front of camshaft, the timing chain (3) will not protrude beyond the front face of engine block (2).NOTE:
It is possible to push the camshaft rearward when installing the camshaft position actuator solenoid valve. Verify that the camshaft lobes are centered in the valve lifter bores after the camshaft position actuator is installed.
- Inspect the sprockets (1, 2) for proper alignment. The mark on the camshaft position actuator sprocket (1) should be located in the 6 o'clock position and the mark on the crankshaft sprocket (2) should be located in the 12 o'clock position.
- Timing Chain Tensioner Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten
- Timing Chain Tensioner Bolt (1) - Tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Remove the EN-46330
Timing Belt Tensioner Retaining Pin (1) from the timing chain tensioner (2).
- Oil Pump (1) - Install
- Oil Pump Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [4x]
- Oil Pump Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Apply a 3 mm (0.118 in) bead of RTV sealant on the engine front cover (1). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and SealersNOTE:
- Install and align the engine front cover (1) within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
- Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
- Apply a 5 mm (0.197 in) bead of RTV sealant on the engine front cover (2). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Engine Front Cover (2) - Install
- Engine Front Cover Bolt (1, 3) - Install and hand tighten [10x]
- Engine Front Cover Bolt (1, 3) - Tighten in sequence [10x] - Fastener Specifications
- If the engine front cover is reused perform the following steps:NOTE:
If the engine front cover is reused, the crankshaft front oil seal must be replaced.
- For proper orientation, note the installation direction of the crankshaft front oil seal (3). The crankshaft front oil seal is a reverse-lip design. Install with "THIS SIDE OUT" displayed as shown.
- Do NOT lubricate the crankshaft front oil seal sealing surface.
- Install the crankshaft front oil seal (3) with "THIS SIDE OUT" facing away from the engine.
- Install the NEW crankshaft front oil seal (3) to the EN-51091 Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (2).
- Install the EN-41478-A Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (1) and the EN-51091 Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (2) into the crankshaft.
- Rotate the EN-51091 Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (2) clockwise until the NEW crankshaft front oil seal (3) enters the engine front cover and seats into the bottom of the engine front cover.
- Remove the EN-41478-A Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (1) and the EN-51091 Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (2) from the crankshaft and engine front cover.
- Inspect the crankshaft front oil seal (3) for proper installation. The oil seal should be installed evenly and completely into the engine front cover.
NOTE: - Apply a 3 mm (0.118 in) bead of RTV sealant on the oil pan (1). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Apply a 5 mm (0.197 in) bead of RTV sealant on the oil pan (2). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Oil Pan High Pressure Port Seal (2) - Install NEW [2x]
- Oil Pan Front Seal (3) - Install NEW
- Oil Pan (1) - Install
- Oil Pan Bolt (2, 3) - Install and hand tighten [16x]
- Oil Pan Bolt (2, 3) - Tighten in sequence [16x] - Fastener Specifications
- Electrical Connector (1) - Connect
- Engine Wiring Harness (3) - Install
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (2) - Install
- Engine Wiring Harness Ground Stud (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Ground Repair
- Install and tighten the transmission fluid auxiliary cooler pipe bracket nut (1). Fastener Specifications
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Clip Bracket (2) @Oil Pan - InstallNOTE:
Components removed in graphic to better illustrate service parts.
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Clip Bolt (1) @Oil Pan - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Transmission Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Crankshaft Balancer (1) - Loosely install
- Install the EN-41478-A
Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (3) and the EN-41665-A
Crankshaft Balancer and Sprocket Installer (2) to the crankshaft.
- Using the EN-41665-A Crankshaft Balancer and Sprocket Installer (2), properly seat the crankshaft balancer (1).
- Remove the EN-41478-A Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (3) and the EN-41665-A Crankshaft Balancer and Sprocket Installer (2).
- Crankshaft Balancer Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener SpecificationsCAUTION:
Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution
- Electrical Connector@Knock Sensor (4) - Connect
- Oil Filter (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Engine Oil Cooler Hose Bracket Nut (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Engine Oil Cooler Gasket (2) - Install NEW
- Engine Oil Cooler Hose (1) @Oil Pan - Install
- Engine Oil Cooler Adapter Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Electrical Connector (1) @Engine Oil Pressure Sensor - Connect
- Wiring Harness Retainer (2) @Engine Oil Cooler Hose - Install
- Engine Oil Pressure Sensor Sleeve (1) - Install
- Lubricate the oil level indicator seal (2) with clean engine oil. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Oil Level Indicator Seal (2) - Install NEW
- Oil Level Indicator Tube (1) @Oil Pan - Install
- Connect the wiring harness connectors (3) and retainers as needed.
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (1) @Oil Level Indicator Tube (2) - Connect
- Remove the M10-1.5 x 120mm (3) and M10-1.5 x 45mm (2) bolts.
- Remove the EN-42386 Flywheel Holding Tool (2)
- Torque Converter Cover- Right Side (2) - Install
- Torque Converter Cover Bolt- Right Side (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Torque Converter Cover- Left Side (2) - Install
- Torque Converter Cover Bolt- Left Side (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Starter (1) - Install
- Electrical Connector (3) - Connect
- Protective Sleeve (4) - Install
- Starter Solenoid Cable (1) - Install
- Starter Solenoid Cable Nut (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Starter Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Starter Solenoid Cable (2) - Install
- Battery Negative Cable Ground Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Starter Heat Shield (2) - Install
- Starter Heat Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Starter Heat Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Front Crossmember (1) - Install
- Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Reinforcement Bolt (2) - Install [4x]
- Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Reinforcement Nut (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Install the heater coolant pump and heater water auxiliary pump bracket (2) as assembly.NOTE:

Support the front stabilizer shaft (3).
- Front Stabilizer Shaft (3) - Install
- Front Stabilizer Shaft Clamp (2) - Install [2x]

- Wiring Harness Connector Seal (1) @Valve Rocker Arm Oil Control Valve Harness (2) - Install NEW
- Engine Block Valley Cover Gasket (2) @Engine Block Valley Cover (1) - Install NEWNOTE:
All gasket surfaces should be free of oil or other foreign material during assembly.
- Engine Block Valley Cover (1) - Install
- Engine Block Valley Cover Bolt (2) - Hand tighten [9x]
- Engine Block Valley Cover Bolt (2) - Tighten in sequence [9x] - Fastener Specifications
- Valve Rocker Arm Oil Control Valve Extension Harness (1) @Valve Rocker Arm Oil Control Valve Harness - Connect
- Ensure the 2 plastic fastener retainers (3) are installed in the fuel pump mounting holes before installing the fuel pump.
- Fuel Pump Bracket Gasket (5) - Install NEW
- Fuel Pump (4) - Install
- Fuel Pump Cover (2) - Install
- Fuel Pump Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [2x]
- Fuel Pump Bolt (1) - Tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Install the fuel pump and fuel injector wiring harness and connect as necessary.
- Cylinder Head Gasket- Left Side (1) - Install NEW
- Cylinder Head- Left Side (2) - Install
- Cylinder Head Bolt M12 x 134 (2) - Install NEW and hand tighten [9x]CAUTION:
Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution
- Cylinder Head Bolt M12 x 102 (1) - Install NEW and hand tighten
- Cylinder Head Bolt (1, 2) - Tighten in sequence [10x] - Fastener Specifications
- Install the fuel pump and fuel injection fuel rail wiring harness and connect as necessary.
- Engine Wiring Harness (2) - Install
- Engine Wiring Harness Ground Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Lubricate the flange of the 8 valve rocker arm bolts with clean engine oil. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Lubricate the 8 valve rocker arms and push rods (1) with clean engine oil. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- When using the valve train components again, always install the components to the original location and position.
- Valve lash is net build. No valve adjustment is required.
- Ensure the valve push rods (1) seat properly to the valve lifter sockets.
- The rocker arm bolts are not serviced separately.
- DO NOT tighten the rocker arm bolts at this time.
- Valve Push Rod- Left Side (1) - Install [8x]
- Valve Rocker Arm (1) - Install [8x]NOTE:
The valve rocker arm support bolts (2) are not serviced separately.
- Valve Rocker Arm Pivot Support Bolt (2) - Hand tighten [8x]
- Valve Rocker Arm Pivot Support Bolt (2) - Tighten [8x] - Fastener Specifications

- Connect the electrical wiring harness connectors to the bank 2 fuel injection fuel rail.
- Engine Wiring Harness (2) @Cylinder Head - Connect
- Engine Wiring Harness Ground Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Lubricate the flange of the 8 valve rocker arm bolts with clean engine oil. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Lubricate the 8 valve rocker arms and push rods (1) with clean engine oil. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- When using the valve train components again, always install the components to the original location and position.
- Valve lash is net build. No valve adjustment is required.
- Ensure the valve push rods (1) seat properly to the valve lifter sockets.
- The rocker arm bolts are not serviced separately.

- Valve Rocker Arm Cover Bolt (1) - Hand tighten [10x]
- Valve Rocker Arm Cover Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [10x] - Fastener Specifications
- Engine Wiring Harness Connector@Ignition Coil - Connect [4x]
- Heater Inlet and Outlet Hose Bracket (2) - Install
- Heater Hose Clip Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe (1) - Install NEWNOTE:
Do NOT reuse the fuel feed intermediate pipe (1). If the 2 fuel feed intermediate pipe nuts (3) are loosened or the fuel feed intermediate pipes are removed, the fuel feed intermediate pipes MUST be replaced.
- Slide the 2 fuel feed intermediate pipe nuts (3) back along fuel feed intermediate pipe (1) to reveal the 2 formed ends (2) of the fuel feed intermediate pipe (1).
- Carefully install the 2 formed ends (2) of the fuel feed intermediate pipe (1) into the sockets of the left and right fuel injection fuel rail. Take care not to hit the 2 formed ends (2) of the fuel feed intermediate pipe (1) on the threaded sockets on the fuel injection fuel rails.
- Hold the fuel feed intermediate pipe (1) firmly in place and hand tighten the 2 fuel feed intermediate pipe nuts (3).
- Fuel Feed Pipe Bolt (4) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe Nut (3) - Tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe (1) - Install NEWNOTE:
Do NOT reuse the fuel feed intermediate pipe (1). If the 2 fuel feed intermediate pipe nuts (2) are loosened or the fuel feed intermediate pipes are removed, the fuel feed intermediate pipes MUST be replaced.
- Slide the 2 fuel feed intermediate pipe nuts (2) back along fuel feed intermediate pipe (1) to reveal the 2 formed ends (3) of the fuel feed intermediate pipe (1).
- Carefully install the 2 formed ends (3) of the fuel feed intermediate pipe (1) into the sockets of the fuel pump (4) and the fuel feed intermediate pipe (5). Take care not to hit the 2 formed ends (3) of the fuel feed intermediate pipe (1) on the threaded sockets of the fuel pump (4) and fuel feed intermediate pipe (5).
- Hold the fuel feed intermediate pipe (1) firmly in place and hand tighten the 2 fuel feed intermediate pipe nuts (2).
- Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe Nut (2) - Tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Fuel Feed Pipe (2) - Install
- Fuel Feed Pipe (2) - Connect - Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
- Fuel Feed Pipe Bolt (1) @Fuel Feed Pipe (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Fuel Feed Pipe (1) - Install
- Fuel Feed Pipe (1) - Connect - Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
- Connect the electrical wiring harness connectors from the fuel rails.
- Fuel Pump Insulator (1) - InstallWARNING:
The noise cancelling foam component MUST be replaced if it has been exposed to engine fluids. Failure to replace the noise cancelling foam component that has been exposed to engine fluids may result in an engine fire resulting in catastrophic engine damage, and possible injury or death.
- Engine Wiring Harness - Install
- Engine Wiring Harness Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten
- Wiring Harness Retainer (1) - Install
- Engine Wiring Harness Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [2x]
- Engine Wiring Harness Bolt (1) - Tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Remove the covers from the cylinder head passages.
- Intake Manifold Gasket (1) - Install NEW [8x]
- Clean all sealing surfaces.
- If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Position the intake manifold and Intake manifold cover (1) to install harness retainers.
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (1) @Intake Manifold Cover (2) - Install [4x]
- Move the intake manifold and intake manifold cover (2) into place.
- Intake Manifold Bolt (1) - Hand tighten [10x]NOTE:

- Intake Manifold Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [10x] - Fastener Specifications
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (1) @Intake Manifold Cover (2) - Install [3x]
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (1) @Intake Manifold Cover (2) - Install [4x]
- Engine Wiring Harness Connector (4) @Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve - Connect
- Engine Wiring Harness Connector (3) @Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor - Connect
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (2) @Intake Manifold Cover - Install [2x]
- Engine Wiring Harness Connector (1) @Throttle Body - Connect
- Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube (2) @Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve - Install
- Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube Connector (1) @Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve - Engage - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
- Plenum Front Panel Outer Reinforcement (1) - Install - Plenum Front Panel Outer Reinforcement Removal and Installation
- Positive Crankcase Ventilation Foul Air Tube (3) - InstallNOTE:

- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.

- Install the accessory drive auxiliary belt (1) following the instructions included with the accessory drive auxiliary belt.NOTE:
The OEM replacement accessory drive auxiliary belt (1) is packaged with a disposable installation tool and installation instructions.
- Inspect the accessory drive auxiliary belt (1) for proper installation and alignment.
- Rotate the crankshaft balancer (1) an additional 360 degrees to ensure proper accessory drive auxiliary belt installation.
- Position the accessory drive primary belt (4) on the belt idler pulley (2), fan and water pump pulley (3) and generator (1).
- Install the EN-51767-2
Stretchy Belt Installer (1) onto the crankshaft balancer.
- Position the accessory drive primary belt (2) on the crankshaft balancer.
- Slowly rotate the crankshaft balancer in a clockwise direction until the accessory drive primary belt (2) fully seats on the crankshaft balancer.
- Remove the EN-51767-2 Stretchy Belt Installer (1) from the crankshaft balancer.
- Inspect the accessory drive primary belt (1) for proper installation and alignment.
- Rotate the crankshaft balancer (1) and additional 360 degrees to ensure proper accessory drive primary belt installation.
- Install the condenser, fan and radiator assembly (1) into its mounts and rotate forward into place.

- Install the engine wiring harness to the air cleaner outlet duct bracket.
- Air Cleaner Assembly (1) - Install
- Intake Air Duct Retainer (1) - Install
- Intake Air Splash Shield (2) - Install
- Intake Air Baffle Retainer (1) - Install [9x]
- Hood Secondary Latch Release Handle (2) - Install
- Hood Latch Actuator Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Air Cleaner Nut (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (1) - Install
- Connect the mass airflow sensor electrical connector (2) and engage all engine wiring harnesses to the air cleaner assembly.

- Exhaust Manifold Gasket- Left Side (2) - Install NEWNOTE:
The cylinder head exhaust manifold bolt hole threads must be clean and free of debris or threadlocking material.
- Exhaust Manifold- Left Side (1) - Install
- If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Exhaust Manifold Bolt- Left Side (1) - Install NEW and hand tighten [5x]
- Exhaust Manifold Bolt- Left Side (1) - Tighten in sequence [5x] - Fastener Specifications
- Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield- Left Side (1) - Install
- Through the wheel opening, install and tighten the 3 left side exhaust manifold heat shield bolts (1). Fastener Specifications
- Inspect the inside of the spark plug rubber boot for a thin, even coat of grease. If there is no grease present or additional grease is necessary, apply a thin coating of dielectric grease evenly to the inside of the spark plug rubber boot up to a depth 15 mm (0.6 in) of from the end of the boot Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Push the boot of the 4 spark plug wires (1) onto the gas engine ignition spark plugs (2).
- Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) @Intermediate Steering Shaft - Install
- If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Valve Rocker Arm Cover Insulator- Left Side (3) - Install
- Install the 3 upper intake manifold sight shield grommets (2) to the 3 valve rocker arm cover insulator retainers (1).
- Exhaust Manifold Gasket- Right Side (2) - Install NEW
- Install the right side exhaust manifold (1) through the wheel opening.
- If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Exhaust Manifold Bolt- Right Side (1) - Install NEW and hand tighten [5x]

- Install the right exhaust manifold heat shield (1) through the wheel opening.

- Wiring Harness - Install
- Retainer Clip (1) @Cylinder Head - Right Side (2) - Install

- Using a suitable tool, install and tighten the heated oxygen sensor (1). Fastener SpecificationsNOTE:
A special anti-seize compound is used in the HO2S threads. The compound consists of liquid graphite and glass beads. The graphite tends to burn away, but the glass beads remain, making the sensor easier to remove. New, or service replacement sensors already have the compound applied to the threads. If the sensor is removed from an exhaust component and if for any reason the sensor is to be reinstalled, the threads must have anti-seize compound applied before reinstallation. - Connect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.
- Using a suitable tool, install and tighten the heated oxygen sensor (1). Fastener SpecificationsNOTE:

- Exhaust Heat Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Front Wheelhouse Liner- Left Side and Right Side - Install [2x] - Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement
- Underbody Skid Shield (3) - Install
- Underbody Splash Shield Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Underbody Splash Shield (1) - Install
- Underbody Splash Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Underbody Splash Shield Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the engine oil to the proper level with NEW engine oil.
- Install the oil level indicator. (1)
- Connect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (9C1, 5W4) , or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (KL9)
- Recharge the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
- Inspect for refrigerant leaks.
- Fill the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716 L84, L87)
- Start the engine and check for coolant leaks.
- Check for oil leaks.

Never push on the reluctor wheel when attempting to install the actuator.
Alternately hand-tighten the fuel pump bolts one turn at a time until the pump is fully seated. Trying to draw down the pump without even side-to-side tightening may result in pump plunger damage.
The aid of an assistant may be helpful in holding the engine harness up out of the way so the upper intake manifold cover does not get caught against the engine harness.
