Circuit/System Testing

  1. Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points: B+ circuit terminal 1 X2 @ G13 Generator & Ground
    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is OK
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
    2. Disconnect - B+ circuit terminal 1 X2 @ Generator Cable
    3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: B+ circuit terminal 1 X2 @ Generator Cable & Output terminal @ Fuse
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Verify the fuse is OK and there is voltage at the fuse.
    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is open
    1. Remove - Test Lamp - Disconnect - Battery Negative Cable @ C1 Battery & Disconnect - Battery Positive Cable @ G13 Generator
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: B+ circuit @ Generator Cable & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance - Replace the component: G13 Generator
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On
  2. Disconnect - Harness Connector @ G13 Generator - Engine Running
  3. Verify the scan tool parameter: Generator F-Terminal Signal = Change is less than 5%
    • If 5% or greater
    1. Ignition Off - Disconnect - Harness Connector @ K20 Engine Control Module - Ignition On
    2. Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 2 @ Component harness & Ground
    • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
    • If less than 1 V - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
    • Go to next step: If less than 5%
  4. Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 2 X1 @ G13 Generator & B+ - Engine Running
  5. Verify the scan tool parameter: Generator F-Terminal Signal - Change is greater than 95%.
    • If not in the specified range
    1. Ignition Off - Remove - Jumper Wire(s) & Disconnect - Harness Connector @ K20 Engine Control Module
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 19 X3 @ Control Module & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
  6. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 19 X3 @ Control Module & Ground
    • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
    • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
    • Go to next step: If greater than 95%
  7. Test or replace the component: G13 Generator
