Installation Procedure

    NOTE:

    It may be difficult to access the transmission unique number (TUN) with the transmission installed in the vehicle.

  1. If replacing the transmission, record the TUN prior to installing the new transmission. Transmission Identification Information
  2. Raise the transmission with the transmission jack and position the transmission to the engine.

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Install the rear transmission bolts (1, 2) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).

    Install the front transmission to engine bolt (1) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).

  5. Remove the transmission jack.
  6. Align the mark of the flex plate to the mark on the torque converter for reassembly.

    NOTE:

    If reusing the torque converter bolts, clean the threads and apply threadlocker to the threads prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    Install the torque converter bolts (1) and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft),

  8. Install the starter. Starter Replacement (LGX) , or Starter Replacement (LSY)
  9. Using the engine support fixture raise the powertrain into place.
  10. Install the left transmission mount to the transmission. Transmission Mount Replacement (Left) 
  11. Install the front transmission mount to transmission bolts. Transmission Front Mount Replacement .
  12. Install the wheel drive shaft to the transmission. Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side
  13. Install the power transfer unit. Power Transfer Unit Case Replacement
  14. Install the drivetrain and front suspension cradle. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation (AWD)
  15. Install the transmission rear mount to the transmission. Transmission Rear Mount Replacement (All Wheel Drive) 
  16. Remove the engine support fixture. Engine Support Fixture

    Install the upper transmission to engine bolts (1, 2, 3) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).

    Reposition the body wiring harness bracket with wiring harness (3) as necessary.

  19. Install the body wiring harness bracket bolt (2) and tighten to 22 N.m (16 lb ft).
  20. Connect the auxiliary fluid accumulator electrical connector (1).

    Position the heater water auxiliary pump (2) to it's original position.

  22. Install the heater water auxiliary pump bolt (1) and tighten to 22 N.m (16 lb ft).

    Connect the transmission fluid cooler outlet pipe (1, 2) to the transmission cooler bypass. Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Replacement (LGX, with V08)

    Connect the control valve body transmission control module electrical connector (1), then clip the wiring harness to the cover.

    Reposition the wiring harness as necessary and install the wiring harness retainer (2).

  26. Connect the transmission output speed sensor connector (1).

    Reposition the engine wiring harness bracket (2) as necessary.

  28. Engine Wiring Harness Transmission Clip Nut (1) Install and tighten 9 N.m (80 lb in)
  29. Install the battery tray. Battery Tray Replacement
  30. Clip the engine wiring harness to the transmission.
  31. Install the transmission range select lever cable to the transmission. Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement 
  32. Fill the transmission with correct fluid. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  33. Check transmission fluid level. Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check
  34. Check for proper transmission range selector operation and adjust the automatic transmission range selector lever cable if necessary. Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment 
  35. If a NEW TCM has been installed into the vehicle, the NEW module needs to be reprogrammed. Service Programming System (SPS)
  36. Reprogram the transmission. Q77 Transmission Control Solenoid Valve Characterization Programming
  37. Road test the vehicle.
