Removal Procedure

    Remove the power transfer unit from the vehicle. Power Transfer Unit Case Replacement 

  2. Remove and DISCARD the Power Transfer Unit Intermediate Drive Shaft Clip (1).
  3. Remove and DISCARD the Power Transfer Unit Half Shaft Seal O-Ring (2).
  4. CAUTION:

    When replacing power transfer unit case seals, use appropriate GM tools along with a hydraulic press. Failure to do so may result in misalignment or damage to the seal and/or power transfer unit.

    CAUTION:

    Do not nick, scratch or damage the sealing surface. The sealing surface is a machined surface. Damage to the machined surface can cause leakage.

    NOTE:

    Remove seal with a thin flat putty knife or equivalent. Inserting the blade of the tool between the outside diameter of the seal and the extension housing surface.

  5. Remove and DISCARD the Power Transfer Unit Intermediate Drive Shaft Seal (3).
