Removal Procedure
- Camshaft Cover - Remove - Camshaft Cover Replacement
- Vacuum Pump - Remove - Vacuum Pump Replacement
- NOTE:
- Ensure the engine is properly timed to Top Dead Center (TDC), prior to performing repairs.
- Ensure the EN-50656 Timing Chain Retainer is installed and securely tightened to prevent the camshaft chain from dropping into the front engine cover during camshaft actuator replacement.
CAUTION:Refer to Fastener Caution .
Install the EN-50656 Timing Chain Retainer (1) and tighten to 8 N.m (71 lb in).
- Mark the camshaft actuator sprocket and chain before removal.
Align and install the EN-50793 Camshaft Actuator Retainer (1) into the slots of the exhaust camshaft actuator.
- Mount the EN-50793 Camshaft Actuator Retainer (1) to engine front cover and tighten the 2 bolts (2) to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
Camshaft Position Actuator Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD
Remove the EN-50793 Camshaft Actuator Retainer (1).
Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (1) - Remove
- Timing Chain Guide Bolt (2) - Remove
- Timing Chain Guide (3) - Remove
Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]
- Camshaft Bearing Cap (2) - Remove
- Mark each exhaust camshaft bearing cap to ensure they are installed in the same position.
- Loosen each bolt on each camshaft bearing cap one turn at a time until there is no spring tension pushing on the camshaft.
Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (1) - Remove [8x]
- Camshaft Bearing Cap (2) - Remove [4x]
Pull the exhaust camshaft actuator (2) forward away from the exhaust camshaft (1). Lift the rear of the exhaust camshaft and pull it free from the exhaust camshaft actuator.
- Replace the camshaft if necessary.
Use the 3 pry points to remove the bearing cap evenly.
If replacing the camshaft, ensure to transfer any marking from the old camshaft to the new one.
