Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Verify the following conditions do not exist:
    • G58 Evaporative Emission Purge Pump - Incorrect connection/Leaking/Visible Damage
    • Q12 Evaporative Emission Purge Solenoid Valve - Incorrect connection/Incorrect installation/Leaking/Visible Damage
    • Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube - Cracked/Disconnected/Incorrect connection/Leaking/Loose/Visible Damage
    • If a condition exists 

      Repair or replace as necessary

    • Go to next step: If no condition exists 
  3. Disconnect the component: Evaporative Emission Pipe - Canister- Side @ G58 Evaporative Emission Purge Pump
  4. Install - GE-41413-A/B Evaporative Emissions System Tester (EEST) - Hose @ J-41413-311 EVAP Brass Cone Adapter
  5. Install - J-41413-311 EVAP Brass Cone Adapter @ G58 Evaporative Emission Purge Pump
  6. Select - Smoke @ GE-41413-A/B Evaporative Emissions System Tester (EEST)
  7. Press and release the switch: Remote Switch @ GE-41413-A/B Evaporative Emissions System Tester (EEST) - Special Tool = On or Activated
  8. Use the special tool: GE-41413-SPT High Intensity White Light - Illuminate the area(s) of concern - Between: G58 Evaporative Emission Purge Pump & Intake Air Duct

    Verify there is no smoke at the following component(s):

    • G58 Evaporative Emission Purge Pump
    • Q12 Evaporative Emission Purge Solenoid Valve
    • Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube - Between: G58 Evaporative Emission Purge Pump & Q12 Evaporative Emission Purge Solenoid Valve
    • If there is smoke 

      Repair or replace as necessary

    • Go to next step: If there is no smoke 
  9. NOTE:

    This step is testing the EVAP purge solenoid valve and O-ring for leaks. Remove the duct closest to the solenoid valve.

  10. Remove the component: Intake Air Duct
  11. Verify the condition does not exist: Smoke exiting the system @ Intake Air Duct
    • If there is smoke 
    1. Remove the component: Q12 Evaporative Emission Purge Solenoid Valve
    2. Verify a condition does not exist with the component: O-Ring (bottom) @ Q12 Evaporative Emission Purge Solenoid Valve - Missing/Torn/Visible Damage
      • If a condition exists - Replace the component: O-Ring (bottom)
      • If no condition exists - Replace the component: Q12 Evaporative Emission Purge Solenoid Valve
    • Go to next step: If there is no smoke 
  12. All OK.
