Circuit/System Description

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

For an overview of the component/system, refer to: Camshaft Actuator System Description

Circuit Description
Ignition circuit Supplied from a fuse.
Control Circuit [2x] The output circuit is switched to ground to activate the component.
Component Description
K20 Engine Control Module The control module controls a series of actuators to ensure optimal engine performance. The control module does this by reading values from a variety of sensors, interprets the data and adjusts the engine actuators accordingly.
M129 Intake Camshaft Profile Actuator
M130 Exhaust Camshaft Profile Actuator
The assembly contains the following components:
  • Actuator Pin [2x]
  • Hall Effect Sensor - The sensor contains a hall effect sensor that varies its output voltage in response to a magnetic field. The hall effect sensor is used for the following sensing application: Actuator pin position
  • Solenoid Valve [2x] - A solenoid valve is an electro-mechanically operated valve. The valve is controlled by an electric current through the solenoid.

There are two solenoids that control two actuator pins that shifts the sleeve on the camshaft to obtain distinct camshaft profiles.

The camshaft profile actuator system is a variable lift valvetrain which enables the control module to change camshaft lobe profile while the engine is operating. The control module can command the following positions:

This system uses the following components:

Each camshaft profile actuator has two actuator pins to either move the camshaft profile control sleeve left or right to change the camshaft lobe profile. The control module can only command the camshaft profile actuator pin to extend out. The actuator pin is returned to the retracted position using the exit ramp on the camshaft profile control sleeve. The actuator pins are held in the retracted position with high power magnets.

The control module monitors for the following normal positions:
