Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Engine - Remove - Engine Replacement (FWD) , or Engine Replacement (AWD) 
  2. Cylinder Head - Remove - Cylinder Head Replacement

    NOTE:
    • Lay the lower bearings and the caps aside in the order they were removed.
    • The connecting rod caps must remain with the original connecting rod. The caps must be oriented identical to original installation.

    Remove and DISCARD the 4 connecting rod bolts (3) from the cylinder 2 and the cylinder 3.

  4. Remove the 2 connecting rod bearing caps (2) from the cylinder 2 and the cylinder 3.
  5. Remove the 2 connecting rod lower bearings (1).

    Install the EN-51454  Guide Pins (3) into the connecting rod bolt hole.

  7. Using EN-51454  Guide Pins (3), push the connecting rod and piston through the top of the cylinder. DO NOT scratch the crankshaft journal or cylinder wall and DO NOT damage the oil jets when removing the connecting rod and piston.
    8. NOTE:

    Lay the piston and the upper bearings aside in the order they were removed.

  8. Remove the 2 connecting rod upper bearings (4) from the 2 connecting rods.
  9. Turn the crankshaft 180 degrees.

    NOTE:
    • The shear surfaces of the connecting rod and the connecting rod bearing cap form a unique fit and must not be swapped or damaged. Do not lay down on the shear surfaces.
    • Lay the lower bearings and the caps aside in the order they were removed.

    Remove and DISCARD the 4 connecting rod bolts (3) from the cylinder 1 and the cylinder 4.

  11. Remove the 2 connecting rod bearing caps (2) from the cylinder 1 and the cylinder 4.
  12. Remove the 2 connecting rod lower bearings (1).

    Install the EN-51454  Guide Pins (3) into the connecting rod bolt hole.

  14. Using EN-51454  Guide Pins (3), push the connecting rod and piston through the top of the cylinder. DO NOT scratch the crankshaft journal or cylinder wall and DO NOT damage the oil jets when removing the connecting rod and piston.
    15. NOTE:

    Lay the piston and the upper bearings aside in the order they were removed.

  15. Remove the 2 connecting rod upper bearings (4) from the 2 connecting rods.
  16. Clean, inspect and overhaul the piston and connecting rod as needed. Piston and Connecting Rod Overhaul
