Measuring Procedure
Engine Block Flatness Inspection
Use a straightedge (1) and a feeler gauge (2) to inspect the engine block for flatness and distortion along the diagonal deck surface. If out of specification, replace the block. DO NOT machine the block. Engine Mechanical Specifications
Use a straightedge (1) and a feeler gauge (2) to inspect the engine block for flatness and deflection along the length and width. If the deck surface is out of specification, replace the block. DO NOT machine the block. Engine Mechanical Specifications
Cylinder Sleeve Diameter Inspection
Measure the cylinder bores at the following measure points, use the EN-8087 Cylinder Bore Gauge:
- 8 mm (0.315 in) (1).
- 76.75 mm (3.022 in) (2).
- 145.5 mm (5.728 in) (3).
- NOTE:
If the cylinder sleeve measurements are not within the recommended limits, ream the cylinder bores with the recommended oversize.
Inspect the cylinder bores, use the EN-8087 Cylinder Bore Gauge (1). Inspect for the following items:
- Wear of cylinder sleeve
- Cylinder sleeve diameter
- Tapering of cylinder sleeve
- Oval status of cylinder sleeve
Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications for the recommended limits.
Bearing Bore Diameter In Cylinder Block Inspection
Install the 5 crankshaft bearing caps (2) in order as they were removed.
- Install and tighten the 10 crankshaft bearing cap bolts (1) in sequence with the EN-45059 Angle Meter. Fastener Specifications
Inspect the bearing bore diameter in cylinder block (1) using the EN-8087 Cylinder Bore Gauge (2). Engine Mechanical Specifications
Remove and DISCARD the 10 crankshaft bearing cap bolts (1) in sequence. Fastener Specifications
- Remove the 5 crankshaft bearing caps (2) in order as they were removed.
