Install both EN-50717-1  Support Braces (2) to the cylinder head and align both tools in a parallel position to each other.

    • Use washers between the special tool and cylinder head.
    • Hand-tighten 4 camshaft cover bolts (1) to cylinder head until the remaining special tool components are assembled.
  3. Install EN-50717-2  Handle (4) to the EN-50717-20-2  Sliding Rods (3).
  4. Install the 2 EN-50717-20-1  Support Brace Adapters (6) to the sliding rods.
  5. Install EN-50717-A  Valve Spring Compressor Adapter (5) to the EN-50717-2  Handle (4).
  6. Install the EN-50717-2  Handle (4), including the sliding rods (3), support brace adapters (2), and the EN-50717-A  Valve Spring Compressor Adapter (5) into the cylinder head.
  7. Tighten the EN-50717-20-1  Support Brace (6) with the camshaft cover bolts (1).
  8. NOTE:

The demounting piece must be applied parallel to the valve to apply even pressure on the valve spring retainers, and prevent damage to the tools or the valve train components.

  9. Adjust the EN-50717-2  Handle (4) and EN-50717-A  Valve Spring Compressor Adapter (5) inline with the valve components.
  10. Tighten the EN-50717-1  Support Brace Adapters (6).

Lubricate the valve stems the first 40 mm (1.58 in) before installing into the cylinder head. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  12. Intake Valve (2) - Install [8x]
  13. Exhaust Valve (1) - Install [8x]

    CAUTION:

Do not damage the valve guide. Remove any burrs that have formed at the key groove by chamfering the valve stem with an oil stone or a file.

Using EN-46116  Valve Stem Remover/Installer, install NEW valve stem oil seals (2).

  15. Valve Spring (3) - Install
  16. Valve Spring Retainer (1) - Install
  17. Repeat the steps 18 - 20 for the other 15 valves.

Position EN-50717-2  Valve Spring Compressor Adapter (2) properly to the valve spring retainer (1).

  19. WARNING:

Compressed valve springs have high tension against the valve spring compressor. Valve springs that are not properly compressed by or released from the valve spring compressor can be ejected from the valve spring compressor with intense force. Use care when compressing or releasing the valve spring with the valve spring compressor and when removing or installing the valve stem keys. Failing to use care may cause personal injury.

    CAUTION:

Do not compress the valve springs less than 25.0 mm (0.984 in). Contact between the valve spring retainer and the valve stem oil seal can cause potential valve stem oil seal damage.

    NOTE:
    • Many internal engine components will develop specific wear patterns on their friction surfaces.
    • Components MUST be separated, marked, or organized in a way to ensure installation to their original location and position. Take precautions in order to prevent interchanging of parts.
    • Tag or mark each part immediately when removed. Indicate location, direction, or orientation when necessary.
  20. Tighten EN-50717  Handle (3) to compress the valve spring and scale the upper valve spring retainer down until the valve keys are discharged from spring load. Use a suitable tool to install the valve keys (1).
  21. Loosen the EN-50717  Handle (3) to release the tension on the valve spring.
  22. Repeat the procedure for the other 15 valve keys.
