Check Crankshaft Axial Clearance

- Clean all sealant surfaces from engine block.
- NOTE:
- Ensure that guide lugs (1) are properly seated.
- If the old crankshaft bearing was reused, set it in as removed.
Crankshaft Upper Bearing (2) - Install [5x]
- NOTE:
If the old crankshaft bearing was reused, set it in as removed.
Install the 2 crankshaft thrust bearings (1).
Crankshaft (1) - Install
Check the 2 crankshaft thrust bearings (1) for proper seat.
- NOTE:
- The check is conducted with the crankshaft bearings installed in the cylinder block and the flywheel is removed. The crankshaft is only loosely fitted in the cylinder block.
- If the value for the crankshaft axial play does not correspond with the permissible axial play, regrind the crankcase seat and use suitable oversize thrust bearings. For oversize thrust bearings, refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
Install the EN-571-B Dial Gauge (2) with the bracket (1) to the transmission side of the engine block.
- Measure the crankshaft axial play. For permissible axial play, refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
- If necessary, remove the crankshaft:
- NOTE:
Mark the installation position of the crankshaft upper bearings and the thrust bearings. Lay aside in order removed.
Crankshaft (1) - Remove
- Crankshaft Upper Bearing (3) - Remove [5x]
- Remove the 2 crankshaft thrust bearings (2).
