Installation Procedure

  1. If reusing the cable, prepare the range selector lever cable bolt for installation as follows:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component.
    4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
  2. Install the automatic transmission range selector lever cable to the vehicle.

    Install the automatic transmission range selector lever cable grommet (2) to the cowl panel.

  4. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  5. Install the 2 automatic transmission range selector lever cable grommet nuts (1) and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

    Install the automatic transmission range selector lever cable (2) to the transmission control assembly.

  7. WARNING:

    Ensure that the cable is properly aligned to the shifter housing prior to tightening the fastener in order to avoid any damage to the cable and/or shifter. Failure to perform this task can result in the shifter moving out of the Park position unintentionally, causing potential vehicle damage and bodily injury.

  8. Install the 2 automatic transmission range selector lever cable fasteners (1) and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

    Install the automatic transmission range selector lever cable (4) into the automatic transmission range selector lever cable lever.

  11. Position the automatic transmission range selector lever cable (4) to the automatic transmission range selector lever cable bracket.
  12. WARNING:

    Ensure that the cable is properly aligned to the transmission bracket prior to tightening the fastener in order to avoid any damage to the cable and/or bracket. Failure to perform this task can result in the shifter moving out of the Park position unintentionally, causing potential vehicle damage and bodily injury.

  13. Install the automatic transmission range selector lever cable retaining fastener (3) and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in)
  14. WARNING:

    After installing the transmission range selector shift cable, pull up and push down on ALL connections to verify that the connections are fully seated and properly engaged. Failure to perform this task can result in the vehicle not being able to shift into PARK causing potential vehicle damage and bodily injury.

  15. Ensure the transmission control and transmission are both in their Park positions.
  16. Press the lock tab (2), then slide the lock ring (1) rearward.

  18. Check to ensure that all available shift controls operate properly.
  19. WARNING:

    After installing the transmission range selector shift cable, ensure the shifter cannot be shifted out of the Park position unless the brake is applied. Failure to perform this task can result in the shifter moving out of the Park position unintentionally, causing potential vehicle damage and bodily injury.

  20. Ensure the shifter cannot be shifted out of the Park position unless the brake is applied.
