Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Without KL9) , or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (With KL9) .
- Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)
Fuel Feed Front Pipe (2) - Remove - Fuel Feed Front Pipe Replacement
- Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
- Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf)
- Remove the battery tray. Battery Tray Replacement (LTG)
Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable (2) - Disconnect - Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement
Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose (2) @Radiator Surge Tank - Disconnect - Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose Replacement (LTG) , or Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose Replacement (LTG Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe to Radiator Surge Tank)
Air Cleaner Assembly (1) - Remove - Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
Power Brake Booster Vacuum Pipe (1) - Remove - Power Brake Booster Vacuum Pipe Replacement (LTG)
Evaporative Emission Front Pipe (1) - Remove - Evaporative Emission Front Pipe Replacement
- Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Tube - Remove - Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Tube Replacement
Radiator Inlet Hose (2) - Remove - Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LTG)
Radiator Outlet Hose (2) - Remove - Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LTG)
Heater Inlet Hose (2) - Remove - Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LTG)
Heater Outlet Hose (2) - Remove - Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LTG)
- Air Conditioning Compressor Hose - Remove - Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (LTG)
- NOTE:
Disconnect the left and right sides. Left side shown, right side similar.
Disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle. (3) Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement
- NOTE:
Cover or plug all open transmission fluid cooler pipe connection points to help avoid any accidental contamination.
Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Nut (1) - Remove
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe (2) @Transmission - Remove
- NOTE:
Disconnect the left and right sides. Left side shown, right side similar.
Front Stabilizer Shaft Link (1) @Front Stabilizer Shaft - Separate - Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
Remove the intermediate shaft pinch bolt (1), then disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
- Exhaust Front Pipe - Remove - Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LTG)
- Front Wheel Drive Shaft-Left Side - Remove - Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side (M3E)
- Front Wheel Drive Shaft-Right Side - Remove - Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Right Side (LTG)
- Position an engine support table under the powertrain assembly.
- With the table positioned, fully raise the table to contact with the powertrain assembly.
Engine Mount Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [2x] - Engine Mount Replacement
Transmission Mount Bolt (3) Remove and DISCARD [4x] - Transmission Mount Replacement (Left Side)
- Remove the frame to body bolts. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LTG)
- Disconnect electrical connectors as necessary.
- Carefully lower the engine table and raise the body on the hoist until the engine/transaxle and frame are separated from the vehicle.
- Separate the engine from the transaxle. TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT
- Install the engine to a suitable engine stand.
During the powertrain removal support the vehicle body by placing a jack at the rear of the vehicle.
Blocks of wood can be used between the front of the frame and the oil pan to table in order to level the powertrain during the removal.
Remove ONLY the body to frame bolts as the powertrain will be removed while still bolted to the frame.
