Component Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Relay Test
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Remove the appropriate component:KR12B Windshield Wiper Relay
- orKR12C Windshield Wiper Speed Control Relay
- Test for 70 to 110 ohms between the test points:Component terminal 85 & 86
- If not between 70 and 110 ohms
Replace the component:KR12B Windshield Wiper Relay - orKR12C Windshield Wiper Speed Control Relay
- Go to next step: If between 70 and 110 ohms
- If not between 70 and 110 ohms
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:
- Component terminal 30 & 85
- Component terminal 30 & 86
- Component terminal 30 & 87
- Component terminal 85 & 87
- If less than infinite resistance
Replace the component:KR12B Windshield Wiper Relay - orKR12C Windshield Wiper Speed Control Relay
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points:Component terminal 86 & 12 V
Connect a jumper wire between the test points:Component terminal 85 & Ground
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Component terminal 30 & 87
- If 2 ohms or greater
Replace the component:KR12B Windshield Wiper Relay - orKR12C Windshield Wiper Speed Control Relay
- Go to next step: If less than 2 ohms
- If 2 ohms or greater
- All OK.
Static Test
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector:S82 Windshield Wiper/Washer Switch
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2 & Low Reference circuit terminal 1 - Windshield Wiper High Speed Switch = Open
- If less than infinite resistance
Replace the component:S82 Windshield Wiper/Washer Switch
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- If less than infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 2 & Low Reference circuit terminal 1Windshield Wiper High Speed Switch = Close
- If 2 ohms or greater
Replace the component:S82 Windshield Wiper/Washer Switch
- Go to next step: If less than 2 ohms
- If 2 ohms or greater
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 3 & Low Reference circuit terminal 1Windshield Wiper Low Speed Switch = Open
- If less than infinite resistance
Replace the component:S82 Windshield Wiper/Washer Switch
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- If less than infinite resistance
- Test for the resistance listed below between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 3 & Low Reference circuit terminal 1
- Delay 1 = 3.8 kohms
- Delay 2 = 2.8 kohms
- Delay 3 = 1.9 kohms
- Delay 4 = 2.8 kohms
- Delay 5 = 770 ohms
- If the resistance is not within range
Replace the component:S82 Windshield Wiper/Washer Switch
- Go to next step: If the resistance is within range
- All OK.
