Circuit/System Verification
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Refer to:SIR Service Precautions
- Inspect the terminals of the following components and connectors for damage or corrosion and repair or replace as necessary:
- K85 Passenger Presence Module
- K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
- Inline Harness Connector
- The connector position assurance (CPA) should seat with an audible and/or tactile click. The CPA isolates the shorting-bars within the connector allowing the deployment circuit to operate properly.
- If the condition is intermittent, wiggle the related wiring harnesses and connectors, with the ignition/vehicle on or engine running, while monitoring the scan tool circuit status parameters for the component. The parameters will display if there is a condition with the circuit or a connection.
- If the condition is intermittent or cannot be duplicated, disconnect the connectors and add dielectric grease or lubricant (Nyogel 760G or equivalent, meeting GM specification 9986087). This procedure will correct the high resistance condition due to terminal fretting corrosion.

- K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module & Harness Connector
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Verify no other DTCs are set.
- If other DTCs are set
Diagnose other DTCs first.
- Go to next step: If no other DTCs are set
- If other DTCs are set
- Verify the enabled impact sensors identified in the scan tool data list match the impact sensors installed on the vehicle.
- If the enabled impact sensors do not match - Greater than desired
Program the control module:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
- If the enabled impact sensors do not match - Less than desired
Inspect the components and replace as necessary.
- Go to next step: If the enabled impact sensors match
- If the enabled impact sensors do not match - Greater than desired
- Verify the enabled deployment loops identified in the scan tool data list match the deployment loops installed on the vehicle.
- If the enabled deployment loops do not match - Greater than desired
Program the control module:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
- If the enabled impact sensors do not match - Less than desired
Inspect the components and replace as necessary.
- Go to next step: If the enabled deployment loops match
- If the enabled deployment loops do not match - Greater than desired
- Verify the vehicle is equipped with one of the following components:K85 Passenger Presence ModuleorB60 Passenger Presence Sensor
- If not the specified state
Replace the component:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
- Go to next step: If equipped as specified
- If not the specified state
- Verify the scan tool parameter:Passenger Presence System Enable Status = Enabled
- If not the specified state
Program the control module:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- If not the specified state
- Verify the scan tool parameter:Passenger Presence System Learn Status = Learned
- If not the specified state
- Verify the scan tool can communicate with the following component:
- K85 Passenger Presence Module
- K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
- If the scan tool cannot communicate with the component
Refer to:Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with Low Speed GMLAN Device
- Go to next step: If the scan tool can communicate with the component
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off - For greater than 2 min
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Verify DTC B1019 is not set.
- If the DTC is set
Program the control module:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
- Go to next step: If the DTC is not set
- If the DTC is set
- All OK.
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Replace the component:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
