Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:

Inspect the terminals of the following components and connectors for damage or corrosion and repair or replace as necessary:

  • B153D Seat Belt Buckle - Driver & Harness Connector
  • K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module & Harness Connector
  • A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly & Harness Connector

Passenger Seat Belt SwitchMalfunction

    NOTE:

It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector:B153P Seat Belt Buckle - Passenger
  3. Test for less than 5 ohms between the test points:Low Reference terminal 2 & Ground
    • If 5 ohms or greater
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Control circuit terminal 1@B153P Seat Belt Buckle - Passenger & The other end of the circuit
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
    • Go to next step: If less than 5 ohms
  4. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  5. Verify the scan tool parameter:Passenger Seat Belt Status=Buckled
    • If not the specified state
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 1@Component harness & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance - Replace the component:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
    • Go to next step: If the specified state
  6. Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 1 & Low Reference circuit terminal 2
  7. Verify the scan tool parameter:Driver Seat Belt Status=Unbuckled
    • If not the specified state
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Jumper wire(s)
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
    3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 1@Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
    5. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    6. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 1@Component harness & The other end of the circuit@Control module harness
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
    • Go to next step: If the specified state
  8. Test or replace the component:B153P Seat Belt Buckle - Passenger

Passenger Seat Belt Reminder Indicator

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector:A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly
  3. Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points:Ground circuit terminal 5 & Ground
    • If 10 ohms or greater

Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

    • Go to next step: If less than 10 ohms
  4. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  5. Perform the appropriate scan tool control function:Passenger Seat Belt Reminder Indicator - Off
  6. Test for less than 11 V between the test points:Control circuit terminal 13 & Ground
    • If 11 V or greater
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
    3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Disconnect the electrical connector:A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly
    5. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Control circuit terminal 13 & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V - Replace the component:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
    • Go to next step: If less than 11 V
  7. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  8. Perform the appropriate scan tool control function:Passenger Seat Belt Reminder Indicator - On
  9. Test for greater than 4 V between the test points:Control circuit terminal 13 & Ground
    • If 4 V or less
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector:K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
