Circuit/System Testing

- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector:E13 Headlamp Assembly
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points:Ground circuit terminal 3 & Ground
- If 10 ohms or greater
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Ground circuit terminal 3 & Ground terminal
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
- Go to next step: If less than 10 ohms
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Connect a test lamp between the test points:B+ circuit terminal 4 @ Component harness & Ground
- If the test lamp does not turn On
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
- Disconnect the electrical connector:X5 @ X50A Fuse Block - Underhood
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:B+ circuit terminal & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:B+ circuit terminal 4 @ Component harness & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:X50A Fuse Block - Underhood
- Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On
- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Disconnect the component:S30 Headlamp Switch
- Test for less than 15 ohms between the test points:Ground circuit terminal 8 & Ground
- If 15 ohms or greater
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Ground circuit terminal 8 & Ground terminal
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
- Go to next step: If less than 15 ohms
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points:B+ circuit terminal 4 @ S30 Headlamp Switch & Ground
- If the test lamp does not turn On
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
- Remove the component:F27UA @ X50A Fuse Block - Underhood
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:B+ circuit terminal 4 @ S30 Headlamp Switch & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:B+ circuit terminal 4 @ S30 Headlamp Switch & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:X50A Fuse Block - Underhood
- Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Connect the component:S30 Headlamp Switch
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service ModeExterior Lighting - Off
- Test for the voltage listed below between the test points:Control circuit terminal 1 & Ground
- Headlamp Leveling Actuator Switch - Position 0 - 10 to 11 V
- Headlamp Leveling Actuator Switch - Position 1 - 8.5 to 9.9 V
- Headlamp Leveling Actuator Switch - Position 2 - 8 to 9 V
- Headlamp Leveling Actuator Switch - Position 3 - 6 to 7 V
- If less than the specified range
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the component:S30 Headlamp Switch
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Control circuit terminal 9 @ S30 Headlamp Switch & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Control circuit terminal 9 @ S30 Headlamp Switch & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:S30 Headlamp Switch
- If greater than the specified range
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the component:S30 Headlamp Switch
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Control circuit terminal 9 @ S30 Headlamp Switch & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1 V - Replace the component:S30 Headlamp Switch
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Test or replace the component:Headlamp Leveling Actuator
NOTE:
It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.
