Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Dome Lamp Switch - Malfunction 

NOTE:

It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off - Open and close the door.-Driver Side - Disconnect the electrical connector: @ A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly
  2. Test for less than 15 ohms between the test points:Ground circuit terminal 5 & Ground
    • If 15 ohms or greater 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Ground circuit terminal 5 & Ground connection G401
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
    • Go to next step: If less than 15 ohms 
  3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  4. Verify the scan tool parameter:Interior/Courtesy Lighting Master Switch = Door
    • If the parameter displays the following:Cancel 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off - Disconnect the electrical connector:X7 @ K9 Body Control Module
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 21 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
      • If the parameter displays the following:ON 
    3. Ignition/Vehicle - Off - Disconnect the electrical connector:X7 @ K9 Body Control Module
    4. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 21 & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
    • Go to next step: If the parameter displays the following:Door 
  5. Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 21 & Ground
  6. Verify the scan tool parameter:Interior/Courtesy Lighting Master Switch = Cancel
    • Go to next step: If the parameter does not display the following:Cancel 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off - Disconnect the electrical connector:X7 @ K9 Body Control Module - Ignition On
    2. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 21 & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If less than 1 V - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
    3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Signal circuit terminal @ Component harness & Signal circuit terminal @ Control module harness
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
      • Go to next step: If the parameter displays the following:Cancel 
  7. Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 3 & Ground
  8. Verify the scan tool parameter:Interior/Courtesy Lighting Master Switch = On
    • Go to next step: If the parameter does not display the following:On 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off - Disconnect the electrical connector:X7 @ K9 Body Control Module - Ignition On
    2. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 3 & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If less than 1 V - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
    • Go to next step: If the parameter displays the following: On 
  9. Test or replace the component:A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly

Dome Lamp - Malfunction 

NOTE:

It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off - Disconnect the electrical connector:A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly - Ignition On
  2. Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points:B+ circuit terminal 1 & Ground
    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is OK 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off - Remove F30DA Fuse @ X51A Fuse Block - Instrument Panel
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:B+ circuit terminal @ Component harness & B+ circuit terminal @ Control module harness
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Verify the fuse is OK and there is voltage at the fuse.
      • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is open 
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:B+ circuit terminal @ Component harness & B+ circuit terminal @ Control module harness
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance - Replace the component:A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly
    4. Ignition/Vehicle - Off - RemoveF30DA Fuse @ X51A Fuse Block - Instrument Panel
      • If the test lamp turns On 
  3. Ignition/Vehicle - Off - Connect the component:A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly
  4. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off - All doors must be closed. - Open and close the door.-Driver Side - Disconnect the appropriate component: = A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly
    • A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly
    • E37EL Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Left (CF5)
    • E37ER Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Right (CF5)
    • E37R Dome/Reading Lamps - Rear (-CF5)
    • E38 Flood Lamp - Center Console
  5. Test for less than 15 ohms between the test points:Ground circuit terminal @ Component harness & Ground
    • A98 Front Overhead Console AssemblyTerminal 5
    • E37EL Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console LeftTerminal 3 (CF5)
    • E37ER Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console RightTerminal 3 (CF5)
    • E37R Dome/Reading Lamps - RearTerminal 6 (-CF5)
    • E38 Flood Lamp - Center ConsoleTerminal 2
    • If 15 ohms or greater 
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Ground circuit
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
    • Go to next step: If less than 15 ohms 
  6. Connect a test lamp between the test points:
    • A98 Front Overhead Console AssemblyTerminal 8
    • E37EL Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Left Terminal 3 & Ground (CF5)
    • E37ER Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Right Terminal 3 & Ground (CF5)
    • E37R Dome/Reading Lamps - Rear Terminal 6 & Ground (-CF5)
    • E38 Flood Lamp - Center Console Terminal 2 & Ground
  7. Perform the scan tool control function: - Courtesy Lamps = On and Off & Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points:
    • If the test lamp is always Off 
    1. Ignition Off - Disconnect the electrical connector: - Ignition On
    • x2 - Terminal 5
    • x7 - Terminal 1
    1. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Control Circuit & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Control Circuit
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp is always On 
    1. Ignition Off - Disconnect the electrical connector: - Ignition On
      • x2 - Terminal 5
      • x7 - Terminal 1
    2. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Control circuit terminal & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
    • Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On and Off 
  8. Test or replace the component:Dome Lamp
