Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Disconnect the component:
- E37EL Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Left { With CF5 }
- E37ER Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Right { With CF5 }
- E37R Dome/Reading Lamps - Rear { Without CF5 }
- E38 Flood Lamp - Center Console
- Test for less than 15 ohms between the test points:
- E37EL Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Left - Terminal 3 & Ground { With CF5 }
- E37ER Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Right - Terminal 3 & Ground { With CF5 }
- E37R Dome/Reading Lamps - Rear - Terminal 6 & Ground { Without CF5 }
- E38 Flood Lamp - Center Console - Terminal 2 & Ground
- If 15 ohms or greater
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
- E37EL Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Left - Terminal 3 & Ground terminal { With CF5 }
- E37ER Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Right - Terminal 3 & Ground terminal { With CF5 }
- E37R Dome/Reading Lamps - Rear - Terminal 6 & Ground terminal { Without CF5 }
- E38 Flood Lamp - Center Console - Terminal 2 & Ground terminal
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
- Go to next step: If less than 15 ohms
- Connect a test lamp between the test points:
- E37EL Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Left Terminal 3 & Ground { With CF5 }
- E37ER Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Right Terminal 3 & Ground { With CF5 }
- E37R Dome/Reading Lamps - RearTerminal 6 & Ground { Without CF5 }
- E38 Flood Lamp - Center ConsoleTerminal 2 & Ground
- Scan Tool Device Control - Courtesy Lamps - On and Off
- Verify the test lamp turns On and Off.
- If the test lamp is always Off
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector:
- X2 @ K9 Body Control Module
- X7 @ K9 Body Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:
- Terminal 5 X2 @ K9 Body Control Module & Ground
- Terminal 1 X7 @ K9 Body Control Module & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:
- Terminal 5 X2 @ K9 Body Control Module & The other end of the circuit
- Terminal 1 X7 @ K9 Body Control Module & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
- Go to next step: If the test lamp is always On
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector:
- X2 @ K9 Body Control Module
- X7 @ K9 Body Control Module
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points:
- Terminal 5 X2 @ K9 Body Control Module & Ground
- Terminal 1 X7 @ K9 Body Control Module & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1 V - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
- Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On and Off
- Replace the appropriate component:
- E37EL Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Left { With CF5 }
- E37ER Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console Right { With CF5 }
- E37R Dome/Reading Lamps - Rear { Without CF5 }
- E38 Flood Lamp - Center Console
NOTE:
Perform the following test for the appropriate component.
NOTE:
It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.
