Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ignition Off Disconnect the electrical connector: @ S30 Headlamp Switch
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode - Test for battery voltage between the test points: 12 V Reference circuit terminal 12 & Ground
- If less than battery voltage
- Ignition Off Disconnect the electrical connector:X1 @ K9 Body Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: 12 V Reference circuit terminal 12 @ S30 Headlamp Switch & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: 12 V Reference circuit terminal 12 @ Component harness & X1Terminal 13 @ Control module harness
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
- Go to next step: If battery voltage
- Verify a test lamp does not turn On between the test points:B+ & Signal circuit terminal 11
- If the test lamp turns On
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off - Disconnect the electrical connector:X2 @ K9 Body Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Signal circuit terminal 11 & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
- Go to next step: If the test lamp does not turn On
- Test for battery voltage between the test points:12 V Reference circuit terminal 12 & Signal circuit terminal 11
- Go to next step: If less than battery voltage
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off - Disconnect the electrical connector:X2 @ K9 Body Control Module - Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 11 & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If less than 1 V
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 11 @ Component harness & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
- Go to next step: If battery voltage
- Test for battery voltage between the test points: 12 V Reference circuit terminal 12 & Low Reference circuit terminal 7
- If less than battery voltage
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off - Disconnect the electrical connector:X2 @ K9 Body Control ModuleIgnition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Low Reference circuit terminal 7 & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If less than 1 V
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Low Reference circuit terminal 7 @ Component harness & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
- Verify a test lamp does not turn On between the test points:12 V Reference circuit terminal 12 & Component harness & Ground
- If the test lamp is always On
- Ignition Off - Disconnect the electrical connector:X2 @ K9 Body Control ModuleIgnition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points:12 V Reference circuit terminal 12 & Ground
- If 1 V or greater Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1 V - Replace the component:K9 Body Control Module
- Go to next step: If the test lamp does not turn On
- Test or replace the component:S30 Headlamp Switch
NOTE:
It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.
